Milo’s School party

PREP students at Swan Hill Primary School celebrated a significant milestone last week in their early literacy journey with a party inspired by the children’s book Milo’s Birthday Surprise.

The celebration marked the students’ successful completion of learning all the common sounds of the alphabet, a key foundation in their reading development.

This achievement was guided by the Little Learners Love Literacy program, which supports children in building strong phonemic awareness and early reading skills.

SHPS Prep teacher Rachel Sheehan said the event was a meaningful and joyful way to acknowledge the students’ progress and enthusiasm for learning.

“Our Prep students have grown tremendously in their confidence and early reading abilities,” Ms Sheehan said.

“The party was a wonderful way to celebrate their hard work and the exciting steps they’ve taken in their literacy journey.”

The event featured Milo-themed songs, games, and activities, all inspired by Milo the Monkey, the beloved character from the literacy program who helps children learn sounds in a fun and memorable way.

Classrooms were filled with music, laughter, and colourful decorations, creating a vibrant atmosphere that made learning feel like a celebration.

Milo’s Party recognised the efforts of the students and highlighted the strong literacy foundations being laid in their very first year of school.

By combining structured learning with play and celebration, Swan Hill Primary School continues to foster a positive and engaging educational environment for its youngest learners.
