In 1974, Steven Watt picked up a footy for the Balranald Football Club during a mini-league match — and he still has yet to put it down even today.
The Roos junior has a storied career in the reserves squad at Balranald. And he intends to go around in 2017.
The first time Mr Watt played reserves for his club was in 1980, it was the start of a career which would see him pick up multiple best and fairest medals.
He spent four years in reserves when he won three best and fairest meals before he was called up to the seniors list in 1984 where he spent a season playing for his hometown side before he left for the Australian Capital Territory.
He played with Gary Parsons in the ACTFL then headed off to Perth.
Watt fell in love, fathered children and decided he want to return to his hometown.
He put down the football in 1987 and took a five-year hiatus from the sport to raise his children.
“I wasn’t into the footy. I was off fishing and looking after babies,” he told The Guardian.
“I didn’t get to play in the ’89-90 premierships but I did get back into it in about 1993.
