Flyers thump Blazers heading into finals

THE Flyers have taken a decisive step toward the playoffs after blitzing the Blazers 72-34 in their clash at the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre.

Swan Hill went into the contest as heavy favourites and they didn’t disappoint with a thumping win to sew up third spot.

It was almost too easy for the ladies in blue and white, outscoring the Blazers with ease.

Laura Anderson led the way with 14 points, followed closely by Tess Denham and Madeleine Jeans with 13 and Kelsey McCoy on 10.

Every player on the court did their job on the scoreboard with no one posting zero points on the night, making the most of their possession.

The Blazers’ Keely Hare was valiant in defeat with 10 points on the board, but it wasn’t enough to lift her side and avoid the wooden spoon.

Kahlia Dix fouled out of the match with five personal fouls, putting her Blazers teammates under pressure.

Swan Hill’s Jaya Blandthorn and Zoe Full were cited for fouls four times each, as the Flyers handed the Blazers 23 trips to the line.

The home side were only able to convert 12 shots, while the Flyers scored seven from their 18 attempts at free points.

Flyers scored 25 field goals with five maximums dropping allowing them to skip out to a huge lead.

Swan Hill will take on Shepparton in Swan Hill on Sunday from 1pm.
