A mother’s anguish

A YOUNG Robinvale mother has spoken of her anguish at not being able to find a home for her and her young family.

Lisa Efstratiou, 18, who has a two week old baby boy, said it was proving impossible for her and her partner Luke, 19, to find a home for their family.

They are the human faces of what has been called a “housing crisis” in Robinvale, where the demand for vacant properties has by far outstripped supply for the past decade.

While there are no specific figures for Robinvale, there are more than 420 people waiting on the public housing waiting list in the Robinvale region, which includes Mildura.

Ms Efstratiou said the situation was making life difficult for the young family, who had no other choice but to live a room attached to Luke’s parents’ house.

“When I want to bath Arthur I have to fill his bath tub up and bring it back to the room as the house is so crowded and there is no space to do it in the bathroom,” she said.
