MURRAY DOWNS MEN’S
Thursday, August 7 – Stableford
WELL done to Dale Smith for winning the competition last Thursday.
Placing first in A grade as the overall winner on the day, Dale scored 40 points from his handicap of 13 to storm home with three points on the last four holes.
Justin Thompson (13) finished second in the top grade on 38 points, while Ross Hastings (10) was third on 36 points.
The winner of B Grade was Bruce Wilson (18) who also had 40 points, with two birdies and an even 20 points on both sides.
Ian Gammon (22) and Wayne Wisby (15) filled up the podium in B grade with 38 and 36 points respectively.
In C Grade, the Joseph Higgins (31) scored 40 points as well to take out first spot, with Geoffrey Bett (31) the next best with 36 points and Darryl Domaille (26) third, also on 36.
Saturday, August 9 – Stableford
JOSH Gadsden (15) finished with 40 points in C grade to finish first overall in the beautiful conditions, with 90 players turning out to enjoy the day.
There were four grades decided with a strong field of single figure handicappers competing in A grade.
Mark Robertson (8) edged out the other competitors to take first place on 37 points and Jorgen Leschke (8) just pipped Ash Free (5) on a countback, with both players finishing with 36 points.
B grade was also closely contested, with Brad Cockfield (10) winning with 37 points ahead of Mark Warren (13) on 36 and trailed by Mark Grant (12) on 33.
Behind Josh in C grade was Ross Hendy (15) who was very close with 40 points and the perennial Tony Ford (19) who also had another good round, finishing with 37 points.
All the winners in D grade had 37 points, with the places ultimately being decided by the countback system.
For those not familiar with the countback system, ties are decided by how players perform over the last nine holes of the competition.
With Mick Kiley (27), Ian Read (20) and Neil McKenzie (32) all tied on 37 points at the end of play, they were allocated first, second and third in that order by the countback system.
Tuesday, August 12 – Par
THERE was no competition on Sunday due to the Swan Hill Football Club golf day, so Tuesday was the third and final competition for the weekend.
Someone should throw a bucket of water on Tony Ford at the moment because he has been on fire on the golf course recently.
Tony (19) had another great round off the blue tees to finish +3 in the drizzly conditions on Tuesday to beat allcomers and has had four flagged rounds in a row now.
Dale Smith (13) and Jimmy McLean (3) also followed up their recent form with +1.
MURRAY DOWNS LADIES
FORTY TWO ladies competed in a Stableford event at the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club on Wednesday.
Kathy Parkinson is a renowned big hitter at the club and on this occasion her handicap of 18 enabled her to score 39 points and take out the main A grade prize from Lois Carnie (19) on 35 points.
The two Mandy’s were successful in B grade, with Mandy Amezdroz (39) scoring 37 points and Mandy McCallum (35) with 33 points the winners.
Scores to 31 points collected balls, with Tamika Hogan and Marg Moore, both 34 points topping the list.
Rosie Ficarra and Noni Domaille shared the jackpot on the par three 11th hole, with Kathy Parkinson, Lynne Bishop and Tamika Hogan closest to the pin on the other par three’s.
Maralyn Morrison (28) 38 points, Carol Wiseman (29) and Jill Bath (31) both 37 points posted the best scores on Saturday, with Kerry Gammon taking out the nearest the pin prize on the 11th hole.
Cameron’s Fine Jewellers fourball is next weeks event and entries are being taken for the two day Ambrose event at the end of August.
MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY
ON Monday, August 11, members of Dad’s Army played the back-nine, with Andrew Millar returning the best score of the day with 18 points.
He was followed by John Brereton, Barry Bishop and Robert Smith on 17 points, Kevin Maddy on 16 points, Ian Dickson on 14 points, Graeme Bray, Ian Ray and Brian Devlin on 13 points, with the rest of the field 12 points and below.
On Wednesday, August 13, members played the front-nine, with Graeme Bray and Colin Hayward leading the field on 18 points.
They were closely followed by Barry Ingram on 17 points, Barry Bishop and Ian Ray on 16 points, Robert Smith on 15 points, Tom Wilkins on 14 points and Andrew Millar on 13 points, with the rest all 12 and below.
The weekly winner was Barry Bishop with 33 points, ahead of runner up Robert Smith with 32 points.
They were followed by Andrew Millar and Graeme Bray on 31 points, John Brereton and Ian Ray on 29 points, Kevin Maddy and Colin Hayward on 27 points, Tom Wilkins on 25 points and Ian Dickson on 22 points.
