SWAN HILL
LAST Sunday was a perfect day for our RSL Diggers Day and the official opening of the Swan Hill Bowls Club season for 2025-26.
An RSL representative attended and set the scene for Diggers Day by reciting the Ode of Remembrance.
Twenty-two of triples enjoyed bowling in the sunny conditions and there was some highly competitive competition.
A good representation of clubs attended, with Kerang, Lake Boga, Murray Downs, Nyah, Quambatook, Racecourse, Tooleybuc and Swan Hill all in attendance.
Sincere thanks to all for your attendance.
There were three three-game winners, with total points scored defining the placings.
Brian Quaife (Swan Hill), David Timmins (Murray Downs) and Jade Morville (Racecourse) took out first prize, with second going to Racecourses, Glen McIntosh and Graeme Bennett and Murray Downs Kerry Jenkins.
The team consisting of Kylie Gardner, Richie Doran and Shane Domaille from Racecourse finished third, just one point behind the runners-up.
Best game winners received their entry money back, with the winners being:
Game 1 – Peter Furnell, Doug Fisher and Connie Rovere (Murray Downs).
Game 2 – Barrie Husson, Judy Husson and Greg Scandalora (Swan Hill).
Game 3 – Norm Smith, Margaret Smith and Ron Wolfe (Racecourse).
The raffle proceeds to support RSL Legacy raised $277, with everyone’s support of this worthy cause greatly appreciated.
A big thank you to our members that provided a magnificent afternoon tea and to those who prepared it on the day.
This Friday is Friday Frolic and a social afternoon, depending on the weather.
You must enter by 2.30pm for a 3pm start, with the jackpot still yet to be cracked and is nearing $300.
Regular and new bowlers are most welcome to play this one hour game of 10 ends, with the afternoon finishing with social activities in the club house.
Next Friday, September 5, being the first Friday of the month, sees The Bridge competition take the place of Friday Frolic for that week.
Teams or single entries need to be in by 1pm for a 2pm start.
Ring Bill King on 0428 324 083 or the club on 5032 1772 to enter.
Congratulations also to Swan Hill bowlers that have had success at tournaments held at various clubs recently.
LAKE BOGA
IT was a smaller group of 36 bowlers that competed in pelican jackpot bowls last Saturday, after the jackpot was claimed the week before.
The jackpot failed to be claimed last week, so it will rise to $144 this week, with everybody welcome to play by leaving your entry on the club house phone (5037 2301) before 12pm, for a 12.30pm start.
The winners last week for the bowls competition, playing as a pair, were Graham Bennett and Richard Bruton, while the runners-up, also playing as a pair, were Neville Graham and Leigh Kingsbury.
Resting touchers went to Bob McIntosh, Richard Bruton and ‘Bones’ Smith.
Social bowls this week was washed out from the rain.
A reminder that our opening day is on Saturday, September 6 and we have room for another team, so if you are keen to play, give Ken a call on 0447 845 975 to enter as either a single or as a team.
For club members, we will be having pizzas for tea after our opening day, so please let the club know if you intend to stay.
A reminder to club members that we are having a working bee on Monday at 8.30am to give the greens and surrounds a tidy up ahead of our opening day.
We are also holding two practice pennant matches in September, the first being against Cohuna at home on Sunday, September 21 and against Kerang Golf at Kerang on Friday, September 26.
Please put your names on the sheet at the club house if you are available to play.
