RACECOURSE Bowls Club has a bowls meeting this Friday night at 5pm, an important meeting concerning the direction of the club.
The Country Care Group Classic held at the Racecourse last week was won by Ivan Hicks (Echuca), Norm Smith, and Chris Smith (City Oval Ballarat), with five-and-a-half wins and +41 shots.
Runners-up, also on five-and-a-half wins but only +38 shots, were Peter Bibby, Ian Coates and Frank Tresize (Cohuna Golf).
In third place were Kevin Reid, Tony Doran (Birchip) and Glenn McKissack (Racecourse).
The highest winning margins for each round were won by the following:
Round 1, Peter Loughran (Racecourse); round 2, D McHarry (Echuca); round 3, Barry Brennan (Moama); round 4, Geoff Rigby (Donald Golf); round 5, Glenn McIntosh (Racecourse); round 6, Buck Lehmann (composite team); and round 7, Danny Kelly (composite team).
Social bowls is now back playing in the afternoon.
The winners, on Wednesday, were Neville Smith, Brian Quaife (Swan Hill) and Phil Parry with two wins and +20.
Runners-up, with one win and +5, were Glenn McIntosh, Fred Burge (Swan Hill) and Kevin Vivian.
Next Friday, we have our President’s Day fours, sponsored by Elsteel & Roofing, which will start at 12.30pm.
Following the bowls we have Sharon’s tea, and our presentation night. Please put your names on the board for catering purposes.
SWAN HILL
SWAN Hill Bowls Club Easter Carnival sponsored by the RSL Bistro was a most successful three days, with numbers up on last year.
The weather was ideal, with Monday’s event just completed when the rain tumbled down and the greens became a sea of water.
Joining in with Swan Hill bowlers, visitors were welcomed from Buckley Park, Harcourt, Gunbower, Culgoa, Murray Downs, Lake Boga, Racecourse and Manangatang.
Good Friday’s winners were Peter and Therese Furnell (Murray Downs), runners-up were Jim Thompson and Graeme Clark (Swan Hill), and third were Doug Fisher and Mick Tempini (Murray Downs).
On Saturday, John Caldwell, Kevin Rowe (Murray Downs) and Bill King (Swan Hill) took home first prize.
The combined team of Ron Atkinson (Lake Boga), Cath Parry (Murray Downs) and Bob MacIntosh (Racecourse) claimed second, and third went to Glen MacIntosh, Graeme Bennett, (Racecourse) and Dawn Holland (Murray Downs).
On Monday, Peter Furnell, Greg Robertson and Dawn Holland (Murray Downs) were winners, Gary McCaig, Kerry Power (Murray Downs) and Robert Ince (Culgoa) were runners-up, and Norm Smith, Ron Wolfe and Margaret Smith (Racecourse) were third.
The first resting touchers in each game over the three days went in the Easter egg hunt. Those to take home the goodies were J. Thompson, W. King, C. Parry, G. Robertson, S. White, N. Smith, D. Holland and G. Coulter.
The bar supplied prizes for lucky cards at the end of play each day.
Lucky leads were L. Dewhurst, T. Evans, W. Walsh. Lucky seconds were K. Vivian, F. Burge. Lucky skips were L. Tompsett (2) and G. MacIntosh.
The raffle raised $270 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
Delicious afternoon teas were served during the carnival, sincere thanks to the kitchen helpers. Also a big thank you to our sponsors and all others who helped to make the weekend a success.
Friday Frolic is back on, be sure to have your names entered by 2.30pm for a 3pm start.
Come and enjoy 10 ends of bowls, happy-hour drinks, a light snack and the chance to win a raffle prize. Bowlers, non-bowlers and visitors most welcome.
LAKE BOGA
IT was a fierce contest at social bowls last Wednesday with only one shot the difference at the end of play.
The team of Max Parsons, Sally Meehan, Evelyn Mortimer and Mick Tempini won against the team of Les Grey, Bones Smith, Stuart Thomset and Alex Jobling by one shot with a score of +10.
A reminder that social bowls reverts to the winter program time on Wednesdays, names in by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.
Jackpot bowls returns this Saturday with names needing to be in by noon for a 12.30pm start. Bowlers can leave their single entry by calling the club on 5037 2301 and leaving a message.
Keep the date free for our annual president’s day on Saturday, May 18.
The day will consist of any-combination two-bowl triples. Cost is $30 team and entries close May 17.
