SWAN Hill Bowls Club’s annual Easter Carnival welcomed a large group of bowlers, who enjoyed good weather, bowls and company.
The bowls action kicked off from 12.30pm on Good Friday, when 20 teams battled it out in an any-combination pairs competition, across three games consisting of 10 ends.
Murray Downs bowlers Peter and Teresa Furnell were the victorious pair, finishing ahead of James Thompson and Graeme Clark in second.
The competition continued on Saturday with two-bowls triples and ended Monday with three-bowls triples, both of any combination.
Saturday’s winners were John Caldwell, Bill King and Kevin Rowe, ahead of Bob McIntosh, Cath Parry and Ron Atkinson.
Monday was won by Greg Robertson, Dawn Holland and Peter Furnel, ahead of Robert Ince, Kerry Power and Garry McCaig.
Swan Hill Bowls Club secretary Bill King said the bowlers had been treated to perfect bowling conditions.
“The carnival has gone very well,” he said.
“It’s been very well attended, and everyone seems to be enjoying Swan Hill, enjoying the bowls and really enjoying everything that the club and the town has to offer them.
“We’ve got the slightest bit of a breeze (on Monday) and this is as bad as the weather has gotten here over the whole weekend.
“We’ve been treated to some very nice days over the long weekend and the greens are looking beautiful.”
King said the Easter Carnival had attracted bowlers from across the state.
“We’ve got visitors from places like Buckley Park and Ballarat, a wide range of places,” he said.
“We also had a group staying at the caravan park come over and play some barefoot bowls. They come here every year from Ballarat and always enjoy themselves.”
King said the Easter Carnival was the perfect warm-up for the club’s Autumn Carnival.
“That carnival begins on the first Saturday of May,” he said.
“I’ve already received a lot of entries from all areas across the state.
“The greens will be in just as good condition then as they are now, they’re just looking fantastic.”
