Murray Downs Men

CLOSE to 70 players took to the course for Thursday’s par competition.

The best score of the day belonged to A grade winner Stuart Holt with a +5 from his 13 handicap.

Runner-up to Stuart was Jonathan Hirst with +2.

B grade winner was Heritage golf club visitor Rod Sankey with a score of +4 while Rodney Bishop came in second place with +2.

C grade had to be sorted out with a countback, with Richard Johnson coming out victorious with +1 ahead of Robert West.

NTPs: 2nd Ross Hastings, 5th Raymond Power, 11th Jonathan Hirst, 15th Jason Stevens.

Friday’s nine-hole stableford competition winner was Jack Cornelissen with a great score of 26 points from his 27 handicap.

Saturday’s competition was an Irish 4bbb stableford.

Winners of the day with 118 points were Rob Merrett, Colin Hedwards, John Webb and Robert West.

Runners-up with 114 points were Mark Warren, Brian Hinton, Greg Weybury and Ross Hastings.

In third position with a score of 112 points on a countback were Brian Elliot, Justin Thompson, Christy Merritt and Grant McNees.

NTPs: 2nd Paul Goodson, 5th Mark Warren, 11th Shelley Wilkins.

Sunday’s par competition had some seriously strong scoring.

In A grade Mason Forster recorded a massive score of +9 off his 37 to take out the win.

Jack Cornelissen could consider himself very unlucky to have come in second position with +8.

NTPs: 2nd Scott Munro, 5th Jonathan Hirst, 11th Daniel Cruickshank, 15th Jonathan Hirst.

 


Murray Downs Women

THE annual Fay Ayson memorial event was held at Murray Downs on Wednesday.

This event, sponsored by Kennedy’s Showcase Jewelers, saw all of the 70 competitors decked out in pink attire.

Competition fees and other money raised will be donated to Swan Hill District Health to help with the purchase of an MRI machine.

Countbacks were required to decide the winners of the two competitions.

The winners of the main event were Tina King, Ruth McAlister, Laurel Dewhurst and Lois Heil, who scored 112 points to win from Mag Kiley, Chris Warburton, Lisa Brady and Pam Austerberry.

A pink survivor ball comp was held concurrently, and this was won by Virginia Allen, Cassie Barnett, Paula Pickert and Lois Carnie with 34 points from Gaye Legudi, Kristy Gordon,Sue Davis and Marilyn Dickinson.

Judy McMahon, Diane Nalder, Kath Brennan and Pam Blohm led the ball pool with 106 points.

Carolyn Zambelli emptied the birdies’ nest on the 12th hole and Pam Austerberry won two nearest-the-pins, with the others going to Rosie Ficarra and Jude Simmonds.

Entries for the fourball and singles events will be finalised next Wednesday.
