Nyah Primary’s warm welcome

NYAH District Primary School held their Welcome barbecue for students, families and staff on Tuesday night.

Four School Leaders were presented with special badges to recognise them as leaders within the school community.

Swan Hill mayor Stuart King spoke to the large crowd about what leadership means and how all students can be leaders.

The school also welcomed their three new prep students.

Each year, new students are presented with a gift bag and Buddy Bear, as part of the Alannah & Madeline Better Buddies program.

Better Buddies is an initiative designed to create friendly and caring primary school communities where bullying is reduced.

Through Better Buddies, children in their first and last year of primary school buddy up and learn the values: caring for others, friendliness, respect, valuing difference, including others and responsibility.

All children in the school learn these values through formal and informal activities, including their interactions with the mascot Buddy Bear, the school’s giant, fun-loving and caring purple bear.
