MURRAY DOWNS MEN
A SMALL field of 30 players took to the field in Tuesday’s mixed Stableford competition.
Latrobe Golf Club visitor Margot Clearly found the course to her liking, her 39 points good enough to win the day’s comp ahead of Tony Wilson, runner-up on countback with 34.
NTPs 2nd Darrly Domaille, 11th Wayne Wisby.
Thursday’s par competition drew a larger crowd of 70 players, and the scoring was honest throughout all grades.
A Grade winner Jonathan Hirst carded a +3 round to edge out runner-up Gene Brooks with +2.
The best score of the day belonged to B Grade winner Mick Kiley, whose +4 comfortably got him the win ahead of John Tripodi with square.
C Grade winner Bruce Wilson had a solid round of +2, while runner-up Neil Bailey carded +1.
NTPs 2nd Mark Warren, 5th John Tripodi, 11th Ray Power, 15th Jason Stevens.
Saturday’s Stableford event was tough scoring for all grades.
A Grade winner Andrew Gilchrist scored a solid 37 points to win on a countback from Daniel Cruickshank who also had 37.
B Grade was decided by another countback, this time Darien Males 37 points was victorious ahead of Malcolm Seton Stewart.
Daniel Lavey had the best score of the day to win C Grade with 39 points, while Matt Harrop finished in second with 36.
NTPs 2nd Craig Fletcher, 5th Graeme Cox, 11th Justin Thompson, 15th Tristian Ramadge.
Another Stableford competition was held on Sunday, and A Grade winner Steve Emberson fired with 38 points, while club Captain James McLean also had a fine round of 37 points from his +1 handicap.
Matt Battenally continues to keep putting his name on the winner’s list, taking out B Grade with 40 points ahead of Joel Travaglia with 38.

MURRAY DOWNS LADIES
FOURSOMES is a variation of the golf game that is not often played in the country but has a dedicated following at metropolitan clubs.
On Wednesday the Murray Downs women ventured out in mild weather conditions to try their luck in this event, where teams of two taking alternate shots.
The team of Marg Moore and Eilleen Willox combined with great effect to score 68 net from their combined handicap of 21.
A purple patch of pars from the 7th to 11th was a feature of their game along with some excellent putting.
Runners-up were Janette Tucker and Glenda Coulter (23.5) 69.5, followed by Lynne Bishop and Sally Fearn (23.5) 72.5.
Lynne Bishop, Lyn Merrett and Virginia Allen collected nearest the pins.
Suzanne McLellan (24) 37 points and Sally Fearn (37) 36 points were the leaders in Saturday’s Stableford event.
Next best scores of 34 points were posted by Kristy Gordon and Di Atkin. Jenny Lynas was rewarded with two NTP prizes.
Dione Heppell (10) 36 points and Jan McEwan (35) 35 points were Sunday’s winners.
VETERANS
THERE were 40 veteran golfers braving the heat at Barham for the first veterans Stableford event for 2024 on Tuesday.
Thanks for the wonderful help of the staff, the condition of the course and the supply of ice water on the course so that us old golfers did not dehydrate.
We also finished before the wild weather arrived.
Ladies A Grade winner was Lisa Hyne with 38 points and runner-up on 36 points was Jenny Lynas.
B Grade winner with 32 points was Kerry Gammon and runner-up on a countback was Nola Robinson.
Men’s A Grade winner was John Manser 38 points, while runner-up was Rick McKenzie 36 points.
Men’s B Grade winner with 33 points was Graeme Bray and runner-up was Kevin Chase 32 points.
NTPs were Jenny Lynas, Nola Robinson, Marg Learmonth, Geraldine Kennedy (nearly a hole-in-one), Dennis Pretty, John Manser, Ian Dodd, Rick McKenzie.
Ball pool, Ruth McAlister, Marg Learmonth, Joan Hobbs, Joyce Boyd, Kevin Lane, Ken Jones, Ray Power, Col Wilkie and David Wilkinson.
The next veterans event is at Kerang on Tuesday, March 12, 8.30am assembly for 9am start.
