Award for fire brigade

Moulamein Notes

THE Moulamein Rural Fire Service has been recognised in the Australia Day awards as the Community Group of the Year for their effort in the floods in 2022.

Well done to our captain, Aleesha, and all of her willing helpers, as well as everyone that helped save our town.

Locals and those that turned up to help us out.

Coots by the thousands

I ONLY keep hearing bad reports about how many coots are in our district.

Hundreds are being shot but thousands seem to be turning up to the funerals of their mates.

These mongrel things can turn a 10-tonne crop into bare water in no time.

We do not know where they go to when they are not here, but they are back with a vengeance.

Bowls season

WE are back into the pennant season and it didn’t start well.

Division 1 was away to Lake Boga and went down, one rink up, two rinks down. Down overall.

Division 3 was up at smoko but the cream cakes must have kicked in for Tooleybuc and we ended up one rink up, two rinks down. Down overall.

Division 3 is away this week to Lake Boga and Division 1 is at home to Swan Hill.

Do not forget your smoko, team.

There are still a few championship games that need to be played.

The red texta will be coming out soon. Get them played. It is almost footy season.

River levels

THE Edward River is still dropping at about 1.5 metres and 1300 megalitres per day.

It should continue dropping as water is used for our rice crops. Check your boats. We do not want them to get grounded.
