SWAN HILL

TODAY’S hot forecast will not be very encouraging for Friday Frolic bowlers, although all who venture out will be most welcome to enjoy the friendly atmosphere in our airconditioned clubhouse, partake in happy hour drinks or try their luck in Mick’s raffles.

Saturday is looking more promising for pennant bowls, with a considerable drop in the temperature.

Swan Hill 1 will travel to Nyah for a challenging game, while our Division 2 team will go to Racecourse and play their second side, with our Division 4 team heading over the river to play Murray Downs 5.

Last Saturday, Division 1 put up a good performance against Murray Downs 1, Swan Hill holding a five-shot overall lead at the afternoon tea break.

A determined Murray Downs side clawed their way back, however, to finish 18 shots up and win all three rinks.

Division 2 had their first win of the season against Manangatang, with the best rink led by M.Balchin, nine shots up, with J.Thompson’s rink not far behind, adding another eight shots.

Their total of 17 shots covered the remaining rink’s loss of 11 shots.

The Division 4 side had the bye, giving some of these players the chance to have a game in Division 2 to help make up the numbers.

Members are reminded to put their names on the list for the club Christmas party, which is being held after bowls on Saturday, December 16.

This is a free night, with all welcome, including Santa, who will be attendance, with raffles to be held.

Bill King is taking entries for Swan Hill Bowls Clubs’ President’s Evening on Monday, December 18, as well as our New Year’s Night tournament on Monday, January 1, 2024.

Both events are played under any-combination triples formats and will start with a 4.30pm sausage sizzle.

Teams and single entries are accepted, with cost being $15 per person, all inclusive, including a light supper. Please ring 0428 324 083 or the Bowls Club on 5032 1772.

Club Championships finals will be played prior to Christmas, keep your games up to date.

LAKE BOGA

LAST weekend’s pennant competition was a great result for our club, with three divisional wins.

In Division 1, all three rinks won with an overall win of 17 shots, and although Nyah District played well all day, fortunately we came home the winners, with that victory now placing us in fourth position on the ladder.

In Division 3 we beat Tooleybuc by a small margin of four shots, Tooleybuc winning two of the three rinks, but our rink skippered by Peter Snell won by a margin large enough to cover the two losse. Lake Boga now sit second on the ladder.

Unfortunately, Division 4 Team 3 lost to Nyah by 11 shots, however, they still sit in third.

Our Team 4 in Division 4 had a close game, but also came home winners with a seven-shot victory.

Midweek Division 1 defeated Swan Hill in what was a close game, by just three shots, and sit just outside the four.

In Division 2 midweek, Lake Boga defeated Murray Downs by six shots and now sit in third.

A reminder to club members that our Christmas party at the clubhouse is on December 16, please bring a salad, meat will be supplied by the club.

TOOLEYBUC

BOWLS was played in what were slightly windy conditions last Saturday for weekend pennant, which made it a challenge.

Tooleybuc players arrived at Lake Boga hoping to make it two wins in a row after the previous week’s first win of the season.

The overall margin was very close all day, but unfortunately, we were unable to come away with the win, going down to Lake Boga by four shots overall, 68 to 72.

We did however manage to win two out of the three rinks, P.Gardner’s team having the closest margin on the day winning by one shot and R.Holland’s team winning by seven shots.

Unfortunately, T.Armstrong’s rink struggled and lost by 12 shots.

Saturday, pennant will be played at Tooleybuc against Racecourse 4, with players please noting that this match will be starting at an earlier time of 11am assembly for an 11.30am start.

The decision to start earlier to beat the heat was welcomed by those who played on Tuesday for midweek pennant.

Tooleybuc played at Racecourse and had a strong combination across both rinks, which resulted in a resounding win overall against Racecourse 3 by 24 shots, 54 to 30.

Both rinks had a win, the results being P.Gardner’s team up by 11 shots and T.Armstrong’s team up by 13 shots.

Next week will be the last match before breaking for Christmas and Tooleybuc will play against Swan Hill 2 at Swan Hill.

Good luck to our ladies team of T.Armstrong, P.Gardner and D.Adams who will be representing Tooleybuc in the Murray Valley State Triples at Lake Boga on Sunday.
