MURRAY DOWNS MEN
IN Thursday’s men’s Stableford competition great numbers of players get out on course, with both the weather and scores heating up.
The overall winner was Kain Domaille with an ultra-impressive score of 43 points from his 17 handicap.
A Grade was taken out by Paul Bethune with 42 points, with John Tripodi finishing runner-up with 39.
The B Grade competition runners-up prize went to Bruce with 39 points on a countback, while the C Grade winner was Hayden Downs with 39 points, with Ray Holdsworth finishing runner-up with 37 points, also on countback.
The nearest-the-pins were won by Wayne Such (2nd), Dale Smith (5th), James McLean (11th) and Gary Hughes (15th).
Saturday’s monthly medal coincided with the first round of our men’s club championships, with strong numbers on show and the conditions putting everyone to the test.
The medal winner for November was Ricky Pickering with a great score of 68 net, winning on a countback.
The A Grade competition was won by Medway Golf Club’s Jason Hough with 68 net, while the runner up was Lleyton Mclean with 70 net.
The B Grade winner was Gary Blencowe, who had a solid score of 70 net, just ahead of Troy Gnitecki on a count back.
The C Grade best scorer of the day was Red Cliffs golfer Brendon Lanigan, registering a 67 net score, with the runner-up being Chris Fordham on a countback with 70 net.
The nearest-the-pins went to Harry Simpson (2nd), Colin Mewburn (5th), Troy Gnitecki (11th) and Francois Dunn (15th).
Sunday’s stroke event and round 2 of the men’s club championships saw Brad Cockfield with the best score of the day, registering a 68 net from his 17 handicap.
The A Grade winner was Mohammad Nawroozi of Tea Tree Gully, who had a great round of 69 net, narrowly beating Craig Fletcher on a countback.
The B Grade runner-up was the ever-consistent Ross Kenyon with 69 net, while the C Grade winner was Matthew Vanderburg of Corowa Golf Club with 69 net, on countback ahead of Darryl Domaille.
The nearest-the-pins went the way of James McLean (2nd), Matthew Collins (5th), Richard Johnson (11th) and Daniel Lavey (15th).
After two rounds of the club championships, Luke Merritt was leading with 152, closely followed by James McLean on 155.
The B Grade leader was Lleyton McLean on 163, holding onto a one-shot lead over Craig Fletcher, while Troy Gniteki has started off his C Grade defence in great fashion and sits on 176, with Jason Perry next best on 184.
The D Grade leader was Darryl Domaille (189), who also has a healthy lead heading into the second weekend and was nine shots ahead of Rob Merrett on 198.
The strong scoring didn’t stop on Tuesday either, with Tony Miceli taking out the overall best score of the day with 43 points from his 18 handicap.
The A Grade winner was Dale Smith, who had 40 points to win on a countback ahead of Graeme Mathiske, who also had 40 points.
The B Grade runner-up was Tynan Perry, who scored well with 38 points, while in C Grade Howard Rosewarne who took the honours with 42 points, with Joel Travaglia (38) finishing runner-up.
The nearest-the-pins went the way of Tony Miceli (2nd), Mick Kiley (5th and 11th) and Dale Smith (15th).
MURRAY DOWNS LADIES
IN the Stableford event at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club on Wednesday, 46 women teed off in hot conditions. If forecasters are correct, this was the first of many hot days to come.
The hottest golfer on the day was Georgina Douglas, who scored 41 points from her 24 handicap to win Division 1, ahead of Di Martin (19) with 39 points.
Lois Heil plays her winter golf at Lakeside, but showed her adaptability to grass greens by scoring 38 points from her 43 handicap to win Division 2 from Elaine Brown (35) on 37 points.
Paula Pickert (38 points), Carolyn Zambelli and Noni Domaille (36 points) led the ball pool.
Paula Pickert and Di Martin hit their tee shots within two metres to share the jackpot on the par 3 11th, with the other accurate shots from Lisa Brady, Mary-Anne Davis and Marg Moore.
Elaine Brown’s 42 points from her 37 handicap was a precursor to Wednesday’s good round and reduced her handicap by two shots, while the runner-up was visitor Peta Roberts (44) with 41 points.
Carol Wiseman, Ruth McAlister, Suzanne McLellan, Kristy Gordon and Marg Moore won golf balls, while Suzanne also won a nearest-the-pin prize, with the others going to Robyn Bett and Sarah Clark.
