League best and fairest
WELL done to our netball girls.
In the A Grade, Matika Howard was voted the Golden Rivers league best and fairest.
There was an unusual finish in the B Grade: Maddy Houlihan and Rhiann O’Meara finished equal.
Not unusual to have a draw, you might say, but it is when they both play for the Swans.
Let’s hope they are here again next year.
I think our coach in the seniors may have done okay as well, but a small indiscretion against Ultima towards the end of the season robbed him of the glory.
Next year, Heath.
Rain from nowhere
WELL, I’ll be buggered.
Where did this come from?
At the time of writing we have had a fantastic 45mm and it is still going.
Some of our crops had put the white flag up and were almost gone.
But now, if they can bring themselves back from the brink of death, we may get a bit of grain off our flood pre-watered dryland crops.
Our rice ground was also as hard as a brick to sow fertiliser into.
So, the second half should go in without breaking as much gear.
Our old air seeder was sort of going through evolution and dropping bits off that it thought it did not need anymore.
Jack was predicting about half an inch here, but he did say there should be good rains up in the catchments.
We will find out by morning.
One thing we may have learnt about this rain out of nowhere is the new moon on its back knows all.
It was full of water and so it was going to rain.
Let’s see what happens with the next new moon.
Bowls season starts
OUR bowls pennant season starts this weekend.
Both teams are away for the first week.
Division 1 is at Nyah and Division 3 is at Racecourse.
We have gone up a level after winning the Division 4 premiership last year.
We have gained a few bowlers so Division 3 needs 12 bowlers and Division 4 needed only eight so there will be fewer missing out on a game every week.
We are still looking for new bowlers as not everyone is available every week.
Come over for a roll on Thursday evenings and give it a go.
You might enjoy it.
Photos on yellow
YOU still have three weeks to get your yellow-themed photos taken for our gallery photo competition.
There is a total prize pool of $700 thanks to some great sponsors.

It must be rice season
MY PHONE has not stopped ringing with duck shooters wanting to know if the rice is in yet.
And we have a fire burning because it is bloody cold.
Rice plantings are down a bit this year because of the unusually high water prices.
But I think we should still be able to fill our sheds without overflowing them this year.
River levels
THE Edward River is steady at just over two metres and just over 2000 megalitres a day.
Yabbies are still going in the local rivers if you would like a feed.
Fish are still too well fed and bites are slow.
