IT was a great concept. A heap of farmers throw in $10,000 each and we build a grain receival depot so we can deliver locally instead of travelling hundreds of kilometres extra to get rid of our harvest every year.
The year before we built our bunker set-up, one farming family had 13 different destinations for their grain in one harvest as everything was filling up in the district.
I can remember one year. This fella that I had never met before. Someone had worked with him and said he was okay. I filled his truck up with barley, he gave me a signed blank cheque, took the barley back to Finley and weighed it. Faxed the weight back to me. I filled the cheque in and everything went fine. Trust on both sides.
Our Moulamein Grain Co-Op operated successfully for 20 years or so for farmers as well as grain buyers.
Unfortunately, due to some business decisions involving our grain co-op, that I cannot say much about because as far as I know it is still going through court.
The Moulamein Grain Co-Op finally got sold and now rises up out of the ashes.
The old grain co-op site will be trading as Windarra Grain Storage Pty Ltd. This will be a locally run business and will be open to receive grain this harvest.
I wish Matthew and Jess all the best in this new venture. It will be great for the district to have this facility open again.
There will be a few different rules than the old set up, but I think they are good changes.

Anyone involved in the early years of our grain co-op knows how difficult it can be.
Last home and away match
WE will be going over to our mates at Murrabit tomorrow to do battle.
Their seniors almost beat us last time we were over there and our A Grade netballers will definitely have a battle on their hands against the top side.
It is only 34 miles. Come over for a drive and cheer our teams on.
Bush nurse open four days a week
I KNOW I will get in trouble for calling our Community Health Centre the bush nurse. But that is what we all call it.
Thank you to our committee that has worked so hard to get our centre back to opening up again for four days.
There was a lot of work done behind the scenes and our community is very grateful.
Our bush nurse will be on duty from Monday-Thursday, from 8am until 4.30pm.
One of the services that will be offered is pathology. This will now be available twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Being your best you
THERE will be a ladies day at the football-netball club complex on September 12.
Our local ladies are encouraged to come in for a free, fun day to discover ways to improve their health, peace of mind, effectiveness and ability to cope around challenging situations and people.
This is being run free of charge to all interesting ladies in our district, not just Moulamein ladies. The list of what they cover on the day sounds like a lot of fun.
The last item of the day got my attention – “how to eat chocolate”.

Operation Christmas Child 2023
THIS should be called Operation Shoe Box. Edie Lewis runs this in our Moulamein district every year.
This is run for underprivileged children and involves filling up a shoe box with presents and maybe a $10 donation to cover the freight.
All items must be new and will give some kid a great thrill on Christmas Day.

August Classic Bowls Tournament
THIS Moulamein Classic will be held on August 26 and 27.
It will be five games by 14 ends two-bowls triples.
You will be well-fed by our club chef Andrew on both days as well as our bowlers for smoko.
There will be big prize money I am assured and you need to get in touch with Kerryn on 0407 800 111 for more details as positions are filling fast.
The rinks may be full by the time you read this but put your name on the waiting list, there is always someone that pulls out.
Football and netball final
JUST another reminder that we have been given the privilege of hosting the first preliminary final for the Golden Rivers league on August 26.
Going by our past performances, we will do it proud.
This will be happening on the same day as our bowls classic, but we have managed it before so it will work again this time.
If you would like to lend a hand for an hour or all day, please put your hand up to help us out. The more hands the merrier.
We could have a couple of Moulamein teams playing on this day so come over and cheer them on.
River levels
THE Edward River has finally started to drop.
Our rivers will continue to drop unless there is a rain event up in our catchments. The Edward at Moulamein is just over 6000 megalitres a day and about 3.8 metres.
