Salau reigns despite rain

SWAN Hill’s Zoey Salau continued her strong form by winning two heats and the final before rain intervened at the Sonic Speedway this weekend.

With Saturday nights racing cancelled following the torrential late afternoon rain, the first day of the two-day event was rescheduled for Sunday afternoon, prior to the running of Sunday night’s event.

That was until the heavens again opened up again late on Sunday afternoon, again forcing the organisers to cancel for the second night running.

The one positive was that the rain stayed away long enough for Saturday night’s postponed card to be run, with popular local Salau showing why her car adorns the VIC1 ladies title after taking out the final of the VSC Sports Sedans event.

Up against a hot field, including rival Felicity Roycroft who she beat to claim the state title at Wangaratta in April, Salau was too strong over the four race event, with Bendigo’s Kevin Clark winning the only driver to upset Salau by winning the first heat.

Salau wasn’t the only local to find herself walking away from Sunday’s meeting victorious, with Swan Hill’s Josh Campbell winning the final of the VSC Standard Saloons.

Campbell won the final despite the dominance Daylesford’s Aaron Meakins, who won all three heats in the lead up to the final.

Trent Wilson had no such problems in the Divi 2 Hot Rods, with Wilson winning all three heats and the final in a small field.

Brenton Phillips and Trevor Perry battled all afternoon in the Lightning Sprints class, with Perry winning the first two heats before Phillips claimed victory in both the third heat and the final.
