50-year footy toast

A FEW of our older players thought they had better get together before any more of them fall off the perch.

It has been 50 years, so a few have gone to the great footy ground in the sky.

It is a bit ironic that while they were trying to get in touch with all of the players from the “Almost Grand Final” back in 1973 against Quambatook, one of their team mates had passed away.

That could explain why he was not answering his calls.

This made our players even more determined to get together for one last hurrah.

This will be happening on the last home game when we play Wandella on August 12. This is the same night as our club’s black tie ball night at the new shelter at the race course.

The old fellas will be hanging around the footy complex for as long as possible and then going to the club or the pub where they can hear themselves talk.

If you are thinking about coming back to the footy to catch up with a few old faces, this could be the weekend to do it unless you want to wait for the finals.

We will have a few teams in the finals this year. A good time to make that visit back home.

A week off

WE crossed the Hay Plains last week to do battle with the team that wanted our spot in the four. This was the big test for our senior footy side.

The first quarter was not very pretty but our side clicked in the second quarter to grab a win and almost cement our spot in second place. Almost.

Our mighty Magoos also had a good win. Our A Grade girls had a good win and our B Grade came a draw. Enjoy your week off and I will see you at Ultima.

Football-netball final

JUST another reminder that we have been given the privilege of hosting the first preliminary final for the Golden Rivers league.

Going by our past performances, we will do it proud.

This will be happening on the same day as our bowls classic. But, we have managed it before so it will work again this time.

If you would like to lend a hand for an hour or all day, please put your hand up to help us out. The more hands, the merrier.

Put August 26 in your calendar to help out or come over for a look.

We could have a couple of Moulamein teams playing on this day so come over and cheer them on.

Galley closed

THE art gallery had some renovations done so they will be taking a week off. They apologise to their regulars as well as those that just pass through. Hopefully they will be back next week with their new ceiling.

August Classic Bowls Tournament

I HAD better get up with the times and start to call this great event just the Moulamein Classic. This Moulamein Classic will be held on August 26 and 27.

It will be a five games by 14 ends two-bowls triples.

You will be well fed by our club chef Andrew on both days as well as our bowlers for smoko. There will be big prize money, I am assured, and you need to get in touch with Kerryn on 0407 800 111 for more details as positions are filling fast.

River levels

THE Edward River has continued to rise and is now at around 4m and almost 6000ML a day.
