Roos move into top five

BALRANALD have kept their finals hopes alive with an 18-goal win over Nyah-Nyah West United.

While only three goals separated the two sides by the end of the first quarter, the Roos were able to move ahead by 10 goals at half-time after the Demons scored only four goals in the second quarter.

This early setback was too much for the Demons, who couldn’t catch up with the polished Roos.

The win moved the reigning premiers back into the top five.

The Demons will have a tough match ahead of them in round 11, when they take on Woorinen, while the Roos will be looking to keep their winning streak when taking on the Kangas at home.

FINAL WHISTLE:

NNW United 33

Balranald 51

Dogs make it two in a row

TYNTYNDER have earned their first back-to-back wins of the season, beating Cohuna by four goals on Saturday.

Kangas playing coach Meg Dye said after having past two weeks off, they went into the match knowing it may be hard to bounce back, particularly against a fired-up Dogs side coming off a close win.

“I thought we responded well in the first half… but our last half was hit-and-miss, and in the third quarter we faded away – we stopped giving the ball to the first option and stepped away from our brand of netball,” she said.

Kangas defenders Lucy Palmer and Breanna Wilson were among their team’s best, working hard all game on shooters Kelsey Rowe and Kimberley Calvert.

The Dogs will now have two weeks’ rest, while Cohuna will have their work cut out for them when they travel to Balranald in round 11.

FINAL WHISTLE:

Cohuna 54

Tyntynder 58

Woorinen too strong

WOORINEN had a convincing 17-goal win over the Mallee Eagles at the weekend.

The Tigers set themselves up early in the match, going into the first break with an 11-goal lead over the Eagles, who were then left playing catch-up for the rest of the game.

“We made sure we got off to a great start and applied good defensive pressure – everyone worked really hard to secure an early lead,” Tigers playing-coach Tayla Bennett said.

“The Mallee Eagles did try to fight back, but we made sure they did not break through that 11-goal buffer we made early on.”

The win, along with Swan Hill’s loss to Lake Boga, moved the Tigers up the ladder into second place, while pushing the Eagles out of the top five.

To keep themselves in finals contention, the Eagles will need a percentage-boosting win over Koondrook-Barham in round 11.

FINAL WHISTLE:

Mallee Eagles 50

Woorinen 67

Saints build on early lead

TOOLEYBUC-Manangatang have dominated over a Koondrook-Barham in Manangatang on Saturday, beating the winless side by a massive 41 points.

While the battle of Central Murray’s bottom two A Grade teams was expected to be a closer contest, the Saints got an early jump over the Raiders, going into the first break 11 goals up.

Their lead continued to grow from there, with the Raiders struggling to find momentum while the Saints looked to be in excellent form.

“It was a really good team effort,” Saints coach Melanie Wait said.

“We really worked on our systems and it paid off.”

Saints shooters Shania Nunn and Summer Blachford were among the best on the court, with Blachford shooting 51 goals. Jayda Plant also played a critical role in the centre position, controlling the court throughout the match.

Both the Saints’ and the Raiders’ ladder positions remained unchanged.

FINAL WHISTLE:

Tooleybuc-Manangatang 77

Koondrook-Barham 36
