Hot Coffey wins another one

Swan Hill jockey Harry Coffey has landed a solid betting plunge on debutant Silvagni at today’s bet365 Swan Hill Cup Carnival.

Picking up on day two where he left off yesterday, with a bold riding strategy which saw him sweep to the lead and tell the field ‘catch me if you can’ as he headed for home.

The Lindsey Smith three-year-old gelding was backed solidly from $5 to start odds-on favourite at $1.70.

Coffey opened his 2023 carnival yesterday with Rose Ring in the $40,000 Footts Demolition Group Plate (1200m) and now has the $27,000 Jarrod Arentz Electrical Plate (975m) as well.

The win was Coffey’s 79th for the year – a rock solid return after notching up his first 100-win season last year with 102 victories.

He still has four more rides today.

In what has been a monopoly for favourites, with $2.25 Chevalier Du Fau taking the first of the day – the $27,000 Ultima Hotel Plate (2400m) – followed by Pride of Sullivan, another odds-on first timer at $1.60, in the $27,000 Busbiz.Net.Au Plate (975m).
