SWAN HILL

UNFORTUNATELY, the RSL Diggers day had to be cancelled last Sunday due to the shortage of numbers and the impending poor weather conditions, with the event to be rescheduled for a future date later in the year.

Players came out in force for Friday Frolic last week, with 22 players enjoying a pleasant Friday afternoon.

The hunt for the jackpot is over, with the lucky winners being regular players Fred Burge and John Dillon, along with D. Blackman, a visitor from Mackay, Queensland.

They took home $70 each, and not satisfied with that, they also won their game on the day, with every game winner on a Friday getting a prize.

Friday Frolic will be on again today, with the jackpot starting again, remember, the more that play, the quicker the jackpot builds.

Games commence at 3pm, please arrive early to have your names in the draw.

A great weekend was had at the Swan Hill Bowls Club last Saturday and Sunday, when the Fireys team from Moonee Ponds visited for their Annual Challenge match.

This is the third year the challenge has taken place, with Saturday being the serious day when the Fireys play the Bush team.

Any combination triples are played, with 27 Fireys playing 27 local Bushies, made up of players from our local clubs.

Saturday winners were Brian Quaife, Rod Wardle, Russell Fields from Swan Hill, runners-up were Glen McIntosh, Shane Domaille, Trevor Wiseman from Racecourse, while third was Tony Davies and his Fireys team.

The Bush team retained the shield, having won the challenge match three years in a row.

Sunday was a more relaxed day, with a casual atmosphere and a random draw done.

Winners were David Woodee (Fireys) and Fred Burge (Swan Hill), while the runners-up were Brian Quaife, Alex Hill and Rod Wardle (Swan Hill), with Bill Weir’s Fireys team finishing third.

A hearty thanks was expressed to all who had made the weekend a success and to the ladies that provided a hot lunch of soup, pies and pasty both days.

A reminder to those intending to attend our presentation dinner at the RSL this Sunday that it starts at 6.30pm, please put your names on the sheet on the notice board or ring club secretary Bill on 0428 324 083.
