MEMBERS of Swan Hill’s First Nations community have been invited to join a new advisory committee aimed at shaping the future of upcoming projects undertaken by the council.
Council Aboriginal community development officer Jacinta Chaplin said an advisory committee would provide expertise and feedback on council projects.
Meeting once or twice a month for up to two years, committee members will be paid sitting fees to attend and contribute.
“Council has several exciting projects currently under way that will be significantly enhanced by the involvement of our First Nation community,” Ms Chaplin said.
“We are looking forward to greater recognition of First Nations culture in council projects and increasing job opportunities for local First Nations people.
“We are particularly seeking input for our Pental Island master plan, Swan Hill Tourism and Cultural Hub and the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery redevelopment.
“The advisory committee aims to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples and assist our journey towards reconciliation.”
