Action aplenty at Sonic Speedway

Dean Thompson

MOTORSPORT fans across the Mallee will be keen to return to the Sonic Speedway this weekend to watch the stars of tomorrow light up the track.

In action will be the Junior Open Sedans, 1200cc Sedans and nationally-aligned up-to-1500cc Sedans in various events, while the open wheeled Wingless Sprints are back with a big field.

Also on the program will be the Formula 500s, Standard Saloons and Sports Sedans, while the Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association are back for a point score event.

In the entertaining Wingless Sprints category, Christopher Temby will be among a list of favourites that includes Mark Walsh, Chris Ansell, Jake Warren, Brian Briton, Christopher Halesworth, Blake Walsh and Peter Logue.

Locals Esther Thomsen and Michael Conlan will represent the Swan Hill club.

In honour of popular local racing figure Jordy Davis, the Open Sedan Juniors, in their fast modified six and eight cylinder race cars, will compete for the Jordy Davis Memorial.

Connor Claridge, Jacob Tinworth, Marcus Maclean, Anthony Hanson, Riley Balins and local driver Lachie Bull are among the favourites set to battle it out for victory, along with fellow locals Blake Adam and Emily Hooton.

Fresh off the Victorian titles last weekend, the Junior 1200 Sedans come to Swan Hill with some new stars in the pack.

Arthur Hutchinson and the new Victoria No.3 Riley Taylor, Victoria No.2 Xander Baxter, Brad Marshall and Dayne Murdoch are all drivers who have been at the front of the field recently, while Rebecca Johnstone, who holds a Swan Hill membership, is another for the locals to support.

The drivers in the Junior Sedan Promotional series round will be split into two categories, being the Top Stars and New Stars, and will compete in 1500cc race cars.

Jayden Lock, Pary Das, Bree Simpson, River Paterson, Tamika Simpson, Swan Hill’s Lachie Bull and Kiarna Barton are just some of the Top Stars to keep an eye on.

Victorian Goulburn Ovens Sedan champion Justin Brockley is among the competitors nominated for the point score event and will go up against stiff competition from Tom and Ben Schmetzer, Marty Bassett, Wayde and Peter Little, Wayne O’Keefe and Robbie Miller.

In the support classes, last start Standard Saloon winner Hayden Glare from Swan Hill, and fellow local competitors Kiel Tripcony, Troy Higgins and Josh Campbell, will enjoy the rivalry with visiting drivers Austin and Lachie Chivers, Ian Walsh and Trevor Evans.

A small Sports Sedan field is nominated with Bradin Claridge, Paul Blake and Marc Hanson all drivers who have previously performed strongly and will go up against locals Scott Bull and Zoe Salau, while Tom Nietvelt will battle it out against Jess Bedggood, Terry Knowles and Malcolm Gammon in the Formula 500s.

Racing starts from 5pm Saturday with public gates open from 1pm, with trackside parking available for early arrivals.
