Swans are soaring

The Mighty Swans continued on their winning way this week. Hay got seven points up in the last quarter but our boys were able to pin them back and get their third win out of three.

Unfortunately, we lost top spot as Ultima also have three wins and have a better percentage. We play them in a fortnight at Ultima.

Our Mighty Magoos had their first win for the season. Let’s hope there are plenty more.

Our A Grade girls also had their third win for the season. Well done, girls.

Our B Grade also had a win this week. We have been fortunate enough to get another home match this week.

Our mates from Wandella come over the river to do battle.

Come over and cheer the Mighty Swans on and have a feed out of the best canteen in the league.

Vintage Car Club visit

For those of you who like to look at old cars, the Swan Hill Vintage Car Club will be visiting our little town this Saturday. May 6.

They will be arriving at our Jeraly Woolshed from about 10am and will be in town until about 3pm. There will be about 60 cars and around 80 people in this mob.

They will also visit our Old Court House as well as the Mooloomoon Woolshed. Our Gallery Girls will be supplying morning tea and lunch for our visitors so they should go home well fed.

Welcome to our town to the Swan Hill Vintage Car Club, I hope you enjoy yourselves. If you would like to see some good country footy and netball.

I will let into a bit of a secret. We stop charging at the gate before you are due to leave so you can come over and cheer on the Mighty Swans for free. I will be the fat bloke in the white coat goal umpiring.

Come and say G’day between goals.

Rice harvest

The sheds are starting to fill up as the rice harvest continues to roll in. There are a few farmers that have finished and a few more that are almost at the end of the harvest.

It has been almost perfect weather for the rice harvest and going by the forecast. The good harvesting weather will continue. Keep pilling it up Hooker. The end of the harvest is in sight.

New owners

Our Tatts Hotel was taken over a while ago now. Just recently our Lakeside Caravan Park has new owners. I welcome these new owners to our town and I hope you do well.

Our Wattle Café also has new owners. They have lived here for a while and I wish them all the best in their new venture. Let’s hope Grizza and Karen can take a well-earned break after about 30 years of running our Wattle Café.

Mother’s Day morning tea

Our Moulamein School invites all Mothers, Grandmothers and Special Women to a morning tea on the 11th of May at 10am. I am sure all of our kids would love to see you there if you can make it.

Breast screen van

Just a quick reminder to all of the mothers out there aged between 50 and 74 that the Mobil Breast Screen Van will be in Moulamein from May 15-19. No referral is necessary and this service is free.

For more information and to book in, please ring 132050.

Fun facts

Our Op Shop in town is run by volunteers and all of the proceeds go to our Community Heath Centre. This little Op Shop would have to be one of the best around for value. Plenty of good quality stuff at bugger all price per item.

Last year our little Op-Shop raised an unbelievable amount of $16,811.33. Each volunteer raised an average of $553.69 for their time spent there and they each put in around 12 hours each. Well done to all involved.

This is a great service to our district and the hippies from the Confest love it.

Straying stock

From May 1, the NSW Government has put the accountability of straying stock firmly back onto the owners. Please put your straying stock back into the paddocks as quickly as possible. For continued breaches, it could cost you as much as $660 per animal.

Who owns these bloody turbo chooks. They already owe me a headlight. I wonder if I can send a bill to the Government the next time I hit a kangaroo or emu.

Sculpture competition

Do not forget our Gallery Mob has their sculpture competition coming up on Saturday, June 10. There is over $2000 prize money up for grabs in the two categories that are large and small.

The large must be able to be carried by two people and have a stable base.

The small sculpture must be no larger than 30cm by 50 cm and be free standing.

Sculptures may be from any materials but must be predominantly recycled materials and be an Australian rural theme. For more information, please ring Joy on 0488 380 470.

River levels

Our Edward has finally started to drop and is down to around 1.6 metres and 1460 megs a day. The Edward is down to around 400 megs a day below Stephens Weir so our river will continue to drop, especially if it stays dry, as our farmers will be watering their pastures again.

Our billabong is on off quota and is still at 500 megs at Bundy. They can announce all the off quota they like. We have had such a great run on it that none of us have any left. It is still good to see that they still announce it when there are excess flows in our billabong.
