Easter Art Show will surprise

ROTARY Club of Kerang was busy over the weekend, collecting and collating the final 82 entries for the Annual Easter Art Show from around the state.

The Show opens at 7pm on Friday with award presentations, a raffle draw and the first chance to purchase artwork from locals and those further afield.

Rotary Club Art Show coordinator Jenny Kelly said there was a greater variety of entrants this year.

“We’re thrilled with the amount of entries we have, from all over the state and across our borders,” she said.

“Our 437 entries cover categories in photography, country racing, Indigenous, our youth category, and the special Easter category over all other mediums like oils, acrylics, pastels and water colours.

“We have new artists this year from different areas, with more variety in the artwork for people to see, so it’s a show well worth patrons coming along to have a look at.

“We make Friday night special for patrons and artists, providing complimentary wine and finger food and having an official opening with addresses from the Rotary District Governor, the Mayor, the judge and category judges.”

Raffle tickets would still be available for $2.50 on the night for last-minute entries.

“The prize is an artwork valued at $800 by Jan Lawler from Balranald, who was last year’s winner of the Shire Acquisition Award,” she said.

“Gannawarra Shire Mayor Garner Smith will announce this year’s Shire Acquisition Award winner, which will be displayed in council.”

Rotary Club also showcase other organisations from around the region at the show.

“We’re trying to help other organisations and groups in town so people know that they’re available,” Mrs Kelly said.

“The Men’s Shed have been a big supporter and have come along most years with some of their timber seats and smaller wooden items for sale.

“A lot of Golden Rivers Artists members enter the show, and the group usually have a table of unframed artworks and cards and things that their members have made.

“The Museum Historical Society has a table with some odds and ends and sometimes they have article for people to guess what it is.

“Local Landcare, Cycling Without Age and Park Run are going to have a little bit of info about that, so the whole community really gets involved.”

The Easter Art Show is open over the weekend, starting at 7pm Friday April 18, 10am-6pm Saturday and 10am-3pm Sunday.
