MURRAY DOWNS
THE Murray Downs fours team, comprising Josh Thornton, ‘Buck’ Lehmann, John Caldwell and Garry McCaig, head off to Bendigo next week to play in the State Championships.
The quartet will play at the Bendigo East Bowling Club, with our best wishes extended to them from all at Murray Downs.
Social bowls last Thursday was just about to get under way when there was a downpour of rain, which put a finish to the morning’s bowls.
Members rostered on duty on Thursday, April 3, are Sharon Giddings and Connie Rovere, with names to be in by 12pm and ready for play to start at 12.30pm.
Our presentation night is being held on the April 9 at the Swan Hill Club’s Glencoe Room, with a list on the notice board for everyone to advise of your attendance.
Also, advance notice of our Annual General Meeting, which will be held on Monday, May 5, at Murray Downs.
Please consider volunteering for our committee to help share the workload, with nomination forms also on the notice board.
RACECOURSE
JACKPOT bowls on Wednesday morning was well supported, with several visitors playing from Ballarat.
The winners, with a good score of +17 from their two wins, were Brian Quaife (Swan Hill), Helen Frame and Robin Roberts, while the runners up, with one win and +4, was John Alderuccio (Murray Downs), B. Hubner (Ballarat) and Peter Holland.
Next Wednesday’s jackpot bowls will go back to a 12.30pm start.
The last evening of night bowls was a huge success, with all proceeds going towards the MRI machine, and it was great to see both greens full supporting the clubs effort to support the fundraiser.
The winners on the night were Shane Domaille, Diane Millsteed and Marie Gardner, while the runner’s up were a team from Lake Boga consisting of Noel Hender, Terry Haw and Ray Leach. A wonderful night was had by all and $1500 was raised for the cause.
On Saturday and Sunday we have our Country Care Group classic two bowl triples event, with 26 teams coming from all over Victoria.
The games start at 9.30am each day and consists of four games of 14 ends on Saturday and three games of 14 ends on Sunday.
On Friday, April 11, we have our president’s day mixed fours event, which will be followed by our presentation night.
Please put your name on the board for the bowls and also on the sheet for tea if attending.
SWAN HILL
SUNDAY, March 23, proved to be an amazing day at the Swan Hill Bowls Club, with 96 players spread across the three greens and all taking part in our fundraising tournament to raise money towards the MRI machine, to be purchased for Swan Hill Health.
Players entered from Manangatang, Tooleybuc, Moulamein, Kerang, Bendigo, Lake Boga, Murray Downs, Racecourse and Swan Hill and we thank all who entered and got behind this effort, including some novice bowlers.
The games were played in a friendly spirit, making the day a great social event for a very worthwhile cause, while some visitors joined us to partake in the scrumptious afternoon tea, provided by our diligent helpers and members.
All willingly took part in the raffles, consisting of numerous prizes that were donated by local businesses and members.
Monetary donations were also received over a period of time, as well as our donation tin that was on the bar leading up to the day.
Club president Mick Balchin thanked all for making the day so successful and the Swan Hill Bowls Club members that prepared everything inside and outside for the day, with special thanks to the greenkeeper and helpers for having the greens in perfect condition.
The very pleasing sum of $3356 was the total raised and presented to committee representatives.
The day ended with the raffles, presentations and a happy crowd, who were all pleased to have been part of such a worthy event.
The winners were the Manangatang team comprising of George and Sue White and Hazel Grant, while the runners up were Glen McIntosh, Peter Loughran and Faye Devereaux.
Third prize went to Kerang’s David Timmins, Som Pascoe and partner.
Novelty prizes were awarded to the following, with each receiving a donated bottle of wine.

Last Friday’s jackpot of $180 was cracked by Brian Richardson and Barry Dickenson, so it’s back to square one tomorrow.
Friday Frolic will be on at the usual time of 3pm, with all welcome to participate.
Be sure to enter your name by 2.30pm to go into the draw, with social activities in the clubhouse after the game.
Congratulations to Vic Plumridge on being in a combined team and having a win at Tooleybuc’s fours event last Saturday.
NYAH DISTRICT
ON Friday nights, the Nyah District Bowling Club are holding family bowls, depending on the weather, with a barbecue.
On Sunday, April 20, the club are having our Beggs Transport three bowls pairs, which will have a 9.30am assembly, ready for a 10am start.
On Saturday, April 26, we are taking part in the Nyah West & District Heritage weekend.
The men’s pairs is also underway and so is the mixed pairs, with the club asking if we can get this done before our presentation night.
