GRAIN growers have donated 170 tonnes of grain worth $53,000 over the peak harvest season to fund an MRI machine at Swan Hill District Health.
Pearsons Group manager Darren Pearce said many growers who donated mentioned their challenges in accessing medical treatment that required an MRI.
“Any donation is amazing, whether it’s one tonne or 100 especially in such a challenging year for growers,” he said.
“You can’t dissect the community on this issue – it’s sporting clubs when players do their ankle, farmers when accidents happen, people who work in town, everyone has been impacted.”
Farmers Paul and Nicole Fitzpatrick were among the first of the 15 growers to donate their grain.
“It’s a good thing to donate to because the money stays local and helps the whole community,” Mrs Fitzpatrick said.
Harvest Heroes will remain open for donations via the Swan Hill District Health NGR card throughout the year from warehouses, brokers and direct from growers.
Growers are encouraged to reach out to Darren Pearson directly or to their broker for assistance or more information.
