LOCALS can support the Mallee MRI Appeal and have a chance to win $1000 by entering the Central Murray Football and Netball League tipping competition.
Entries to the 18-week tipping pool are available at the CMFNL office at the Swan Hill Basketball Stadium for $2 until Friday, April 4.
The mini competition alongside the tipping pool has a $500 prize for a guess of the top five teams, and the number of games each of those teams will win.
Both the tipping competition and the mini competition are proudly sponsored by Holts.
More entry locations will be announced on the CMFNL Facebook page.
CMFNL manager Jessie Chester said the competition is a chance to engage league supporters over the season and build support for getting an MRI in Swan Hill.
“We want to interact with our community, get supporters eager for the season and support a local cause, and with the way the community has rallied behind the MRI appeal it just made sense,” she said.
“The MRI is a good tie-in to football across our different demographics and stakeholders, and having one accessible closer to home will be massive for our players.”
Ms Chester said injured players currently have to take large amounts of time out of their work and school weeks to access treatment.
“Bendigo now have a concussion clinic which is a huge asset for their sporting leagues, and we don’t have access to anything like that so just having the MRI machine here would make a huge difference to our players,” she said.
“Concussion is a big topic not just at the national level but in the community leagues, so it is important that we have adequate local access to treatment.
“We have had incidents where football and netball players are concussed or even have an injured shoulder or knee and they have to get a referral, go on a waiting list for Bendigo and then travel to receive treatment, which takes up so much time.
“Having an MRI in Swan Hill will hopefully also appease people who are apprehensive of injury because they know they have that access to medical care, and we can get more people into team sports.”
The tipping pool leaderboard will be updated online throughout the season.
