– Introduce yourself and why you have decided to stand for council.
I am Lynda Moss a mother of three grandma of five, married to Jim for 41 years, so that shows my ability in problem solving and conflict resolution. I have been involved in community groups since I was 14.
I believe in the whole Balranald shire and want to be part of the change from administration back to being self-governed by a council.
This will be a difficult time to navigate, I feel I have gained skills over the years to be a productive part of the new council to move forward to benefit the community.
– Have you had any past experience in local government?
I have not been a councillor, but I have worked for two shire councils so I have an understanding of the inner workings of council, which I feel will be an advantage. I am looking forward to working as part of the local government team to benefit residents in the Balranald Shire. I am keen to develop my existing skills and make a positive difference to local Government team.
– If elected. what issues do you hope to address and prioritise during your time at council?
Back country and arterial roads need urgent repairs and up grading. Bidgee Haven Hostel needs to be assessed as we live in an ageing population. Support local business and retail areas. Make better use of the river. Financial management and decision making needs to be improved and transparent.
We need a doctor due to no doctor; we have lost the RFDS ladies’ doctor who visited monthly and the podiatrist. Councillors needs to be more community-focused and accessible so residents have confidence in the council and its decision making.
I want to spend more time in the communities to find out more of what is important to all residents.
– In what ways would you like to improve the municipality?
Look at the shire as a whole, not just Balranald. There are Euston, Kyalite, Hatfield, Penarie, Clare and Oxley. More focus on tourism in the whole area, our natural resources, the World Hheritage area of Mungo, Yanga National Park, lakes and rivers. Better governance, more transparency and a strong and effective leadership, representation, planning and decision making. Offer the best value for money to rate payers.
To act fairly, ethically and without bias. Actively engage with the community for better outcomes.
