SWAN Hill Christian School has devoted terms 2 and 3 to flourishing academically.
This is proven by the range of activities that have taken place in the year so far.
Principal Kristy Wilson says: “We believe that learning is a collaborative adventure.”
SHCS teachers have embraced a multitude of ways that children learn and created engaging activities that empower student abilities.
In Term 2, students explored design concepts in maths, history and literature in integrated studies, endurance in sport, and leadership and service in community work.
This was accompanied by two excursions: one to Pioneer Settlement and one around town to Swan Hill landmarks.
In Term 3, students explored forces and functions in science, earth and space in integrated studies, and growth in literacy and imagination in English.
As the weather cleared up, they were able to bring the classroom outside and allow students to learn from their environment.
This was timely as schools all around Australia joined in with National Science Week and Book Week.
Mrs Wilson said the school recognised the importance of diverse learning in the classroom, providing children with real-world opportunities.
“A major way we do this is through our garden and community service projects,” she said.
SHCS is now partnering with Food for All and Woolworths as a recipient of a 2024 Junior Landcare Grant.
“As a result of this, our students will have the opportunity to grow our school’s edible garden and give back to our community,” Mrs Wilson said.
Students have been planting vegetable seeds, caring for the crops, harvesting them, learning how to cook with them, and donating the supply to those in our community who need it most.
Swan Hill Christian School, only a few minutes from the Swan Hill town centre, offers a unique balance of academic excellence and values-based learning.
Its purpose is to be an inspired and caring school that serves and enriches the Swan Hill community as it equips and empowers the students to flourish in their journeys of growth.
Guided by Christian faith, the school strives to provide values-based education in a vibrant, engaging, and inclusive learning environment, respecting and nurturing each student’s unique qualities and potential.
