MURRAY DOWNS MENS

ON Tuesday, about 40 players entered a mixed Stableford event, with the best score of the day belonging to A Grade winner Andrew Spitty, who fired a fantastic score of 38 points from his +2 handicap, with runner-up in A Grade being Wodonga Golf Club visitor Gary Little with 37 points.

Malcolm Talbot took out B Grade competition with 34 points on a countback from Darryl Domaille, who also finished with 34 points.

The nearest the pins were won by Paul Bethune (2nd), Dale Smith (5th), Mark Warren (11th) and Paul Bethune (15th).

Thursday was also a mixed Stableford event, with Doug Grant claiming the A Grade honours with his 36 points good enough to win on a countback ahead of Warrnambool Golf club visitor Justin Fary.

The best score of the day belonged to B Grade winner John Webb, who returned a good round of 38 points from his 16 handicap, with the runner-up being Rod Proctor with 37 points.

Shane Kelly claimed C Grade honours with 37 points ahead of Bruce Wilson in second with 36 points on a countback, while Joseph Higgins continued his strong form in D Grade with his 38 points good enough to get the win over Geoff McDonald in second with 37 points.

The nearest the pins were won by Paul Bethune (2nd), Justin Fary (5th), Gary Slater (11th) and Dale Rogers (15th), with a special mention going to Dale Rogers, who recorded the ultimate glory of a hole in one on the 15th hole.

Almost 100 players entered Saturday’s Stableford competition, with some consistent scoring throughout all four grades.

Former club professional Nathan Kungl took out A Grade with a very respectable score of 36 points from his +1 handicap, while the runner-up was Ken Gregory with 35 points.

Woodlands Golf Club visitor Jacob Norton took out B Grade honours with 34 points on a countback from Keith Maeger who also had 34 points, while the best score of the day belonged to C Grade winner Zachary Haywood, who had a great round of 39 points from his 18 handicap, with Christy Merritt finishing second with 37 points.

Stuart Brumby took out D Grade with 37 points, ahead of Geoffrey Brasser in second with his 34 points.

The nearest the pins were won by Bob Burns (2nd), John Webb (5th), Craig Matherson (11th) and John Webb (15th).

Scoring heated up for Sunday’s mixed Stableford competition, with resident pro shop worker Luke Rodgers lighting up the A Grade, returning a super impressive score of 41 points from his handicap of four, which equated to one under par off the stick, with the A Grade runner-up being Coady Gorringe with 38 points.

Stephan Banks returned home for a hit on Sunday and took out the B Grade competition with a great round of 39 points from his 16 handicap, while Ross Hendy came in second with 37 points.

The best score of the day belonged to C Grade winner Nadine Cox, who returned a sensational score of 43 points from her 32 handicap, while Jamie Knee finished second with 36 points. The nearest the pins were won by Gary Blencowe (2nd), Darian Male (5th), Jamie Knee (11th) and Ross Hendy (15th).


MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

FORTY-eight women endured the very chilly conditions at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club on Wednesday, with only three competitors returning scores on the plus side of the ledger in the par event.

In Division 1, Nonie Domaille (18) finished three up ahead of Shelley Wilkins (20) on two up, while Jenice Krahnert (28) square and Tracey Hooper (43) one down were the Division 2 leaders.

Suzanne McLellan was the other player on the plus side with a score of one up, but had to be satisfied with leading the ball pool, with Kathy Parkinson and Tina King two down and Jenny White three down the next best.

Paula Pickert (2nd), Nonie Domaille (5th), Kathy Parkinson (11th) and Judy McMahon (15th) were the nearest the pin winners.

On Saturday, Mag Kiley (21) scored 40 points to win the major prize ahead of Belinda Gardner (30) and Barb Cadd (28), who both finished with 38 points, while Nadine Cox and Jill Bath also had handicap reducing scores of 37 and 36 points respectively, with Belinda and Jill having the added bonus of a nearest the pin prize.


LAKESIDE LADIES

LAKESIDE is looking great after the extra rain, but it was a cold start for those who competed in the fourth round of the club championship with Tricia Witney (30) 79 claiming victory anhead of Ruth McAlister (18) 80 and Deanne Free.

Joan Foster won the putts with 22, while the nearest the pins were won by Deanne (3rd), Ruth (7th and 12th) and Tricia (18th).

Sunday is the final of the men’s club championship with presentations and a roast meal to follow, all are welcome, with many thanks also extended to all of our sponsors.


NYAH WEST

ROB Forster continued his dominance of the club championships after day two, with rounds of 75/79/154 seeing him sit 13 shots ahead of his nearest rivals Andrew Flanagan (82/85/167) and John Manser (85/87/172).

The championship is decided by the best three of four rounds, so there is likely to be several challengers lurking with two rounds still to play.

The nearest the pins went to Rob Forster on the Goodyear Autocare 2nd and the Rutherford Street Tyres 16th, John Manser won the Nyah West Pharmacy 12th and Dennis Pretty was closest on the Nutrien Ag 15th, while the Country Tracks 4WD Swan Hill eagles nest keeps expanding.

Round three of the club championships will be played on Sunday, as well as the junior golf development program at 9.30am, with vacancies still available for more children to join in.
