TEMPORARY arrangements to access medical care in Balranald have been put in place after the town was left without a doctor.
Dr Slava Zotov permanently closed Balranald Medical Centre on May 31 after more than 20 years of servicing the community.
Emergency care, acute beds and aged care services can now be found at Balranald Multipurpose Service, arranged by New South Wales Far West Local Health District.
In addition, Dr Sujay Ganganaghatta Chandraiah from Deakin Medical Centre in Mildura has been offering virtual consultations every Saturday.
However, from June 15, Dr Chandraiah will be in Balranald every Saturday from 9am to 4pm to provide face-to-face consultations.
The New South Wales Government is currently working with the Commonwealth to establish a long-term service, as attempts to sell Balranald Medical Centre before its closure were unsuccessful.
Far West Local Health District will provide an update on June 30 on the establishment of a longer-term solution for the community.
While the services offered are virtual, nursing staff at MPS will be available to assist the emergency medicine doctors.
Questions about accessing GP or related services can be directed to Balranald General Practice on 5020 1055.
