Quilts and crafts on display at Balranald

ANGELA Harbon has been honing her quilting and patchwork skills for the past 15 years.

Now, she is showcasing her work at the Balranald Art Gallery with other quilting enthusiasts in the community.

“We’re all excited and a bit chuffed because we haven’t had a showcase in ages,” Ms Harbon said.

The Balranald Quilting and Craft Group have been meeting every fortnight for years.

Ms Harbon said it’s a way for people to catch up, relax and work on their projects.

“It’s not just quilting,” Ms Harbon said.

“Some people bring along whatever project they’re working on that day. It could be anything from crochet to embroidery.”

Ms Harbon said the quilts have been made using a variety of techniques.

Some of the more popular styles are applique quilts which involve sewing shapes into the background of a quilt, and pieced or patchwork quilts which require sewing pieces of fabric together.

“A lot of us in the group like to do both styles which you can see in the exhibition,” Ms Harbon said.

“Some of the works have taken up to two years to complete.”

The quilts made by the Balranald Patchwork will be on display at the Balranald Art Gallery until the end of July with a gold coin donation for entry
