School steps up again with country fair

SWAN Hill Christian School are opening their doors to community again, this time to recreate a country fair for everyone to enjoy.

Principal Kristy Wilson said the fair idea came about on the back of the huge response to the school’s community Easter hunt held in March.

“We were really amazed at the number of people who attended,” Ms Wilson said.

“More than 250 people of all ages got involved and it was such a great fun evening, and we enjoyed welcoming the community into our school.

“It was such a success we wanted to recreate another opportunity for the community to join together for another fun event.”

The community fair will be held June 18 at the school grounds located in Aerodrome Road, Swan Hill.

There will be a host of activities on offer, including bush dancing, photo booths, crafts and a range of other fair-style games and activities.

Ms Wilson said the most exciting event would be the free petting zoo.

“We have the Billabong Ranch coming along with a range of animals that people will be able to interact with and this will be fun for the whole family,” she said.

“There is no cost to take part in the activities and snacks and refreshments will also be available.

“Being a smaller school, we feel it is important to reach out to the wider community as it gives our students a chance to meet different people and enact our belief that we should use opportunities to bless others when we can.

“We are teaching selflessness, kindness and giving to others and we try to support the community in any way we can.

“For example, we donate the food we grow in our garden to others who need it.”

The school has previously held a fireworks display as well, and student leaders are involved in the planning and running of community events, providing valuable learning opportunities in the process.

The country fair will be held between 3.30pm and 5.30pm and the school requests people register their attendance at Swan Hill Country Fair Facebook page so they can cater appropriately.
