Developing student potential to the full

TOOLEYBUC Central School offers a tight-knit community environment with a broad range of learning opportunities.

It has a focus on traditional learning in literacy and numeracy, and also provides lessons in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

It also offers passion projects across a variety of areas to support student engagement, and is focused to develop high potential and gifted education in a range of domains.

Principal Melanie Wait said while Tooleybuc Central was a smaller school, it had a full range of facilities and learning options available to students.

“Our classes run from foundation through to Year 12 which is beneficial as it means students do not need to leave to attend high school so have consistency right through their schooling years.

“It means every student is known within our community, and we can provide targeted teaching based upon their individual needs. This really supports the academic success of our students.

“We offer a varied curriculum which includes exciting topics such as computer coding and Lego electronics. We also have a 3D printer and a device program for our primary-aged children with every student having access to a laptop.

“We also have a commercial kitchen, computer lab and an industrial arts room which is equipped with lots of great tools and machinery such as routers and lathes.”

Students can learn Japanese with a trained Japanese speaking teacher on staff.

There is a finely tuned music program where students are learning guitar and ukelele.

Mrs Wait said a huge advantage for the school was its ability to provide small class sizes, and this complemented their teaching style known as explicit teaching.

This involves teachers setting clear learning goals and success criteria for students and then ensuring the students understand what they need to do to succeed in the lesson.

Teachers check in regularly to confirm understanding and then evaluate the results, and those results guide the next lesson and cater for student needs based upon their ongoing progress.

The school also offers a diverse sporting program with PE available to all students.

There are basketball courts, athletics equipment, table tennis and mini tennis courts on site, and the school regularly takes part in inter-school activities and sporting events.

Tooleybuc Central had four students qualify for zone-level cross country and another grade six student has qualified for trials to join the Riverina Netball Team.

Mrs Wait said the school aimed to support children to achieve the best personal results in a safe and caring environment.

“We provide a sense of community and belonging where students feel they are part of a close-knit family with positive relationships across all year levels from foundation to year 12,” she said.

“There is no limit to what students can achieve here, and I would welcome anyone to book a personal tour of our schools to see all we have to offer.

“We also offer a bus service to Swan Hill so we welcome children from all areas to join our school.”

To book a tour, contact the school on 5030 5422.
