Curtain rises on CWA Music and Drama Festival

The annual CWA Music and Drama Festival will be held on Friday, May 10, at Swan Hill Uniting Church.

Organised by the CWA Murray Valley Group, it will be a day filled with performances from members of five different CWA branches.

Member of the NyKora branch Margaret Finnemore said one of the highlights is the poetry and prose reading, where a representative from each branch will speak on a randomly chosen topic for three to five minutes.

“The topic could be absolutely anything, but you’d have to speak for those few minutes and entertain the audience,” Ms Finnemore said.

“It really puts you on the spot.”

Ms Finnemore said the NyKora branch are hard at work with rehearsals for their performances including a song from the musical South Pacific.

“I think our practices have been quite enjoyable, specially our dress rehearsals,” Ms Finnemore said.

“Some of us are dressed up as sailors for the performance.”

Ms Finnemore, a member of the CWA for 60 years, has made lifelong friendships through the group.

“Meeting new people and forming lifelong friendships is all part of being at the CWA,” she said.

Ms Finnemore hopes that the annual festival will give women from other branches an opportunity to get out and interact with each other.

“It’s good to just get together and socialise because these days everything is online, but once upon a time, it was different,” Ms Finnemore said.

The event starts at 9:30am at the Uniting Church in Swan Hill.

Entry is $20. Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea will be available.
