Moulamein Notes
UNFORTUNATELY, I did not get to go to our local Anzac ceremony this year, but from all accounts our Moulamein Public School kids did a great job running it.
There were about 100 at the mid-morning event and about 80 at the dawn service.
Well done to all those involved. The two-up was a bit quiet at the Tatts this year but we still managed to raise over $200 for our old folks’ home in town.
Break-in in Moulamein
THIS does not happen in our little town very often, but one of our businesses was broken into over the weekend.
I haven’t heard what was taken yet. But let’s hope it was not much.
Rollover near town
WE had a young fella dodge a kangaroo two kilometres out on the Deniliquin Road on Sunday.
The poor bugger had only bought the ute two weeks ago and had only insured it two days ago. I saw the police in town earlier so I just went and asked his advice as no one was hurt.
Only one car involved but we wanted to get it off the road. No worries, he said, shift it and I will be out there shortly.
The young fella now has a police report number that involved a breath test so his insurance should be fine.
But we all know what insurance companies are like. Take your money for years, but do not like to give it back if they can get out of it.

Fish monitoring device
I USED to have one of these in our creek when times were different. My fish monitoring device was a bit different to this one.
There is a stainless-steel cable that runs into our Billabong Creek just near the old temporary bridge in town. It has a NSW Fisheries sign on it – Do not touch – which only got us more interested over the years.
It is anchored down pretty well as you cannot pull it in. We eventually lost interest in it and could not work out for the life of us what it could be.
I found out the other day. It picks up any fish that swims past it with an electrical tag implanted in it.
There have been yellers that were tagged at Euston go past it, as well as many other well-travelled fish. After years of wondering, now we know.
Gallery exhibition
THE Graham Hearn Exhibition will be happening from this Saturday in our Moulamein Gallery.
The opening night will kick off at 7pm. This is a free night and a grazing platter will be provided.
If you would like a drink on the night please BYO or duck over to the Tatts across the road and grab a stubby, or two.
Graham is an artist from Cobargo NSW but has close ties with his family in Caldwell. He has had some work on display at our Moulamein Gallery. Now you can see what he really can do.
Footy-netball go to Wandella
OUR local footy-netball season has started with a whimper for the Mighty Swans.
This week we go out to the hill at Wandella. This is one of the only times of the year that I do not want to hear my Bombers team song.
River levels
OUR Edward is steady now at just over one metre and about 750ML a day. Not much will change in the near future.
Still nothing getting caught in the Billabong other than carp but there have been a few good fish caught in our Edward. A bit hot and cold though. Biting one day, nothing the next.
