Finals fever hits darts

THE first finals round of Swan Hill Dart Association was one of the closest finals rounds in recent memory, with both match-ups decided on the final game of the evening.

The top-of-the-table clash between the RSL Have A Goes and the Woorinen Blazers was held out at the Tooleybuc Club, while the do-or-die match between the Woorinen Tigers and the Tooleybuc Buccaneers was held at Swan Hill RSL.

The finals are played under a slightly different format to home-and-away matches, with the competition reverting to a simple first-to-five format, so when the Blazers got the jump on the Have A Goes after winning the first four doubles matches, they needed only one more win to go straight through to the finals.

Resilient as ever, the Have A Goes managed to win their four singles matches before claiming victory in the teams game to take out the win, seeing them progress to the final and a week off.

At Swan Hill RSL, the Tigers were always going to be the underdogs with only three qualified players available.

To their credit they pushed the Buccaneers all the way to the ninth and deciding teams’ game, where Tooleybuc were eventually victorious.

That win has earned Tooleybuc a spot in next week’s preliminary final against the Woorinen Blazers, with the winner of that game to go through to the final, where they will take on the Have A Goes at Swan Hill RSL.
