Little Aths up and running with grant

SWAN Hill Little Athletics Centre has been given a jump start to the 2024/25 season with a $4600 grant from the Coles Little Athletics Community Fund.

The Little Athletics centre based at Ken Harrison Reserve will use the funding to upgrade its timing gates with solar power and buy new trolleys to support its aspiring athletes and parent volunteers.

Swan Hill was one of 43 grassroots clubs and centres who shared in $150,000 from the latest round of Coles grants, which has netted Little Athletics centres more than $2.5 million since 2018.

Swan Hill Little Athletics secretary Felicia Chalmers said the funding would help the centre to provide a quality program for its athletes and volunteers.

“The new trolleys and solar-powered timing gates will significantly enhance our ability to manage equipment efficiently and run smooth competitions,” she said.

“These upgrades will not only benefit our young athletes but also support our volunteers and the broader community by improving the overall Little Athletics experience.”

Coles Little Athletics Australia Myles Foreman said the fund had already helped more than 480 centres across Australia.

“The funds have helped centres buy a range of new sports equipment such as high jump mats, hurdles and discuses for athletes, as well as equipment for volunteers such as trolleys, laptops and printers,” he said.

“All our centres are run by dedicated parent volunteers and grants like this help them immensely.”
