CONSTRUCTION has started on Swan Hill’s new viewing platform at the Riverfront precinct, but there are concerns it could be delayed.
After being announced in late 2021, the project was initially expected to be completed in June last year, but that has now been moved to late 2023.
The construction site, between Swan Hill Riverside Big4 and the Pioneer Settlement, has meant closures of footpaths and roads as cranes blocked parts of Monash Drive.
Director of Development and Planning Heather Green said that works on the Monash Drive River Viewing Platform and Boardwalk project have been progressing well.
She also said that contractors are looking to begin the structural steel installation this week.
“River levels are posing a challenge to the smooth progress of the project and has meant that not all pile caps could be poured,”she said.
“Despite this, things are still moving forward and part of the structural steel elements will be installed adapting to the current river levels”.
Ms Green said that the recent river rise would impact council’s ability to meet the target completion date of the end of September, but that the team “remains committed in delivering this high-quality asset to our riverfront for all to enjoy.”
