First baby of the year

SWAN Hill welcomed its first baby of the year on January 12 in the Swan Hill District Health maternity unit.

Jind Chouhen weighed in at 3.52 kilograms, and parents Harshminder and Navpreet were very happy to welcome the little girl into their family.

Originally from India, the family enjoys being in Swan Hill.

Navpreet lived in Melbourne but has lived in Swan Hill for more than two years and said she prefered being in Swan Hill.

“I spent my whole pregnancy here at the hospital, I work in the kitchen, so it feels like it is all very connected,” Navpreet said.

“It’s very exciting to have the first baby for the year.

“We are very happy it is a girl, but my husband he always wanted a boy,” she laughed.

Navpreet will be returning to work at the hospital shortly after her maternity leave, and said she was keen to get back to work with her colleagues.
