Bowls Notes November 15

KERANG BOWLS

OUR first night of Twilight Triples was completed last Wednesday evening.

Although it was a little cool, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, as it was the first time for many to get back to having a game of friendly bowls after the lockdowns and stay at home demands.

There were some good scores on the night, with Auto Pro (Rodney Pascoe, Heath O’Brien and Barry Gladman) coming out on top, 30 points and 15 shots up to win the meat vouchers from Choice Cut Butchers.

They were just in front of the Taylor Ashton Painting team of John “Digger” Peck, Rob Fabry and Wayne “Wheels” O’Neill, who finished 10 shots up.

‘McAndo’ also scored 30 points.

The encouragement chocolates were awarded to the team representing Gray’s Bakery – Wayne “Tige” Neville, Noel Robertson and John Lynch.

Obviously, they missed their leader, Laurie, but he will be back next week.

Thanks to our generous sponsors Gray’s Bakery, Choice Cut Butchers and Hall’s Hardware.

COHUNA BOWLS

IT was beautiful weather for bowls on Tuesday.

Our numbers were down a little now that pennant has started.

Names need to be in by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.

The lucky winners this week were Terri Hancock, Marj Mooney, Marian Smith and Corale Jones.

Well done ladies.

The Wednesday pennant started this week for Division 1 and we journeyed over the river to Barham.

Mary Meredith had a runaway win on her rink that gave us an overall by 15.

Marg Reade was down by 2 and Kate Peace was down by 6.And despite pretty trying conditions, bowls events are now coming thick and fast after the enforced shutdowns, with the Ladies Tuesday bowls first up. They fielded six rinks of triples, with Gwen, Noelene and Jean taking home the chocolates.

Midweek pennant followed, with the Ones at home to Kerang.

After a dour struggle Golf claimed the win with two rinks winning comfortably.

Our Wednesday night competition then commenced with a good field, bowing to the cold after 14 ends.

Inaugural winners were Ken Hocking, Stephen Henty and Jean Sutherland.

Teams for this comp are as follows:

1. D. Turnour L. Sutherland G. Hall

2. M. Appleby H. Hall G. Kendall

3. R. Farrant M. Flinders M. Henty

4. K. Hocking J. Richardson J. Prout

5. M. Simmonds K. Cramer J. Siderow

6. G. Valentine B. Mawson J. Sutherland

7. P. Robinson L. Mathers E. Bartram

8. K. Currie G. Bowles R. Johns

9. S. Henty Y. Eckhardt D. Woolhouse

10.N.Simmonds R. Flinders D. McNamara

Those players who have indicated that they are happy to play as Bankers will be more than welcome each week, as there are always absences.

Onto Thursday pairs, with rival attractions limiting the field somewhat.

Nevertheless we enjoyed the day, even if things were a little different.

Chickens to Jon Henty, Barney McLoughlan and Lee Nightingall, and the repecharge to Alan Holmes and Snow Baker.

The chances of pennant play were pretty grim by the weekend, but fortunately all games were played with no reports of rain.

The Ones travelled to Wakool, and scrambled home with the points despite the locals claiming two rinks.

Jarred was the One winner, his 23-13 scoreline carrying the day.

The Whites hosted a very strong Barham unit, and were left a little battered and bruised after the encounter.

David Orr saved some face with a neat two shot win, the eventual margin being some 27 shots Barham’s way.

David, Lee, Greg and Bill were rewarded with the Bower vouchers .

Our Navy team travelled to Kerang Golf and kept the club colours flying with a handy two rink, 41 shot victory.

Doug Peace again led the way, his rink gelling into a very formidable group.

Jon Henty also won well, with Zac Mitchell missing out by a handful of shots.

The Gunny Golfers are still trying to work out how they lost after a solid win and a draw, but the final tally saw Pyramid up by just four shots.

A great effort after some late changes had to be made.

NORTHERN DISTRICT BOWLS

THE first ND event for the current season saw the completion of the Sixty and Over Pairs for both men and women.

The Men’s event went to the pairing of Fred Schmidt (Pyramid Hill) and Laurie Forde (Gunbower), whilst the ladies went the way of Jean Fairchild and Jenny Laursen (Barham).

This week the Sixty and Over Singles, as well as the Novice Singles for both sexes will be played at Barham Bowls Club, then coming up are the State Pairs, with entries closing this week.

It will be played at Cohuna Golf on November 21.

Northern District pennant has commenced without many headaches, thought possible due to the new system of recording and ladder compilation.

Most clubs have shown members how to input the Bowls link app, and all can quickly see results as they come to hand.

Well done to the managers and club recorders who have been prompt in submitting data after each round of matches.LEITCHVILLE BOWLSOUR trip for Round 2 of pennant to Barham did not prove successful.
