Swan Hill bowls over Nyah District

REIGNING premiers Swan Hill have recorded their first win of season 2021-22, comfortably defeating Nyah District at the weekend.

Swan Hill monstered the Demons, winning 112 shots to 49 – including a 46 to 10 shot win on Lyndon Shadbolt’s rink – while Brian Mansbridge’s quartet also did considerable damage, winning their rink 39 shots to 12.

Nyah District were able to salvage something from the afternoon however, with Rex Howard, Alex Everitt, John Hopkins and Simon Wynne managing to tie 27 shots each against Swan Hill’s final combination to take at least one match point away from the afternoon.

Murray Downs remain the only undefeated division one team after the opening three rounds, after they beat Moulamein 85 shots to 42. Murray Downs won two of the three rinks for the day, with the Josh Thornton-led group of Alderuccio, Napier and Tempini going down by just one shot – 17 to 16.

It mattered little however, as Brian Lehmann led his combination to a massive 33 to 7 shot win over Kerryn Evans’ team and John Caldwell’s side doubled Graham Edmond’s outfit 36 to 18.

In the final division one match of the weekend, Racecourse handed Lake Boga their first loss of the season by 23 shots. Racecourse claimed all 12 match points on offer to move to outright second on the ladder, after winning all three rinks on the day.

Norm Smith, Glenn McIntosh, Shane Domaille and Kylie Gardner were the stars for Racecourse, winning their rink 28 shots to 15, with Racecourse winning the remaining two rinks by nine and one shot respectively.
