The Murray Valley State Triples were played on Sunday at Lake Boga with very disappointing entries.

The winners of the Ladies section were Teresa Furnell, Di Scown and Noeline Weir of Murray Downs, with the Men’s section won by Mark Snel, Mick Holyoak and John Ford from Racecourse.

The next event for Murray Valley is the Champion of Champion Singles to be played at Swan Hill Bowls on Saturday January 8 and Sunday January 9.

The Novice Singles is now on January 16.

MURRAY Downs held their annual Turkey Day tournament last Thursday with very challenging weather conditions.

Congratulations to the winners – Ken O’Bree, Sharon Giddings and Geoff Seton-Stewart.

Runners-up were Doug Fisher, Di Angus and David Timmins.

Congratulations also to Teresa Furnell, Di Scown and Noelene Weir on winning the State Triples held at Lake Boga on Sunday.

They will now progress to the region finals in March.

RACECOURSE

RACECOURSE Bowls Club will be closed from December 25 to January 4, however the club will be open on Christmas Eve if members want to come for Christmas drinks.

The final of the club Men’s Singles will be played tonight at 4.30pm between Robert Hayes and Holyoak with spectators welcome and bar facilities open.

The winners of jackpot bowls on Wednesday morning were Arthur Threadgold, Kevin Vivian and Allan Lindsay with two wins and +11 shots.

Runners-up were Neville Smith, Andrew McKay and Phil Parry with one win and +3 shots.

Night bowls was won by Woorinen Wanderers consisting of Barb Lewis, Greg Lewis, Trevor Rowlands and Tony Keegan.

FRIDAY Frolic will be on today, with names to be in by 2.30pm for a 3pm start.

Tomorrow is the last day of the pennant before the holiday break and all three teams will be playing at home.

Well done to our Division 1 team which is in third position on the ladder and our Midweek Division 1 team which is in second position.

Saturday night after bowls is our Christmas party where we are serving a gourmet meal of pizzas, salads, fruit salad and ice cream.

This will be followed by petite tranches, all welcome with names on catering sheet, please, to join in the cheer and fun.

On Wednesday December 22 at 4pm the final of the Men’s Club Championships between Brian Mansbridge and Vic Plumridge will take place, come along and watch, and good bowling to you both.

Entries for our A/C Triples on New Years night can be made to Bill King – 5:30pm start with a light supper after bowls.

NYAH DISTRICT

CONGRATULATIONS to our club Singles winners with both games going to the final end.

Youngster Thelma Watson defeated two year veteran Sheena Coe, and wily Simon Wynne came from behind to defeat our great clubman Bryan Smith.

Our club classic tournament has been postponed to a date after our Armstead day in February.

Christmas party is this Sunday at Tooleybuc Club, and thank you to them and all our sponsors for their ongoing support.

Last Saturday Division 1 struggled against a competitive Racecourse who were determined to avenge their first round loss, and we went down by 3 rinks.

Tuesday saw Manangatang and Nyah District one rink all, but Manangatang were big winners.

THANKS to Nyah District in providing our Division 4 side with two substitute players last week so our team could play against Lake Boga 4 at home, it was a close match with one rink winning by six shots, and the other team had a draw.

This week Division 4 travel to Moulamein.

Our Division 2 played at Racecourse and unfortunately went down in all three rinks, with Racecourse quite convincing winners on the day, hoping for an improved performance this week at Murray Downs.

Midweek played Murray Downs 4 at home and won by 12 shots overall with both teams winning one rink each.
