Bowls notes January 7

SWAN HILL

OUR rescheduled new year’s tournament was held on Monday night and was a great success with 72 bowlers playing in perfect weather conditions.

Clubs represented were Racecourse, Murray Downs, Tooleybuc, Moe, Kerang and Lake Boga while the Thompsett family, a team of new bowlers, were also made welcome.

The winners were Frank Jacka from Swan Hill, D.J. Weaver from Racecourse and Danny Mitchell from Moe, with runners-up Graeme Clark from Swan Hill, Bill King from Swan Hill and Ernie Russell from Racecourse.

Third went to Neil Brown Dawn Holland and Cath Parry who were all from Murray Downs, the lucky cards – lead Noel Delmenico, second Kerang player, and skip Alex Smith.

A delicious supper was served at the finish of play with a big thank-you to all who attended.

Friday Frolic will be on today with names needing to be in by 2:30pm for a 3pm start. Come along and enjoy our beautiful greens, sharing snacks and social drinks with your bowling friends after play.

The Champion of Champions is being held this weekend at Swan Hill’s Bowls Club, with Vic and Diane playing at 9:30am and your support would be greatly appreciated with a reminder to please BYO lunch.

Swan Hill Bowls wish all a happy, healthy and safe 2022, and enjoyable bowling.

LAKE BOGA

OUR Club Singles were finalised on Sunday morning with Lisa Critten winning against Janet Hamill and Ray Wilson way too good for Les Barnes, with congratulations to Lisa, Ray, Janet and Les for making the final.

Good luck to Lisa and Ray in the Champion of Champions this weekend.

Social bowls winners on Wednesday were Mick Tempini, Grant Davies and Richard Bruton with runners-up being Ray Leach, Shirley Swan, Ron Atkinson and Mary Lynas.

We have our Two Bowl Twilight Triples on Sunday January 23 with a 5pm BBQ and a 6pm start, entries to be sent to either Rod on 0447382007 or Ken on 0408591256, alternatively it can be added to the list on the board at the bowls club.

DIVISION 1 – v Racecourse at Racecourse – Lisa Critten, Max Lord, Marie O’Meara and Ken Hamill; Judy Wilson, Ray Wilson, Janet Hamill and Les Barnes.

Division 2 – v Tooleybuc at Lake Boga – Shirley Swan, Noel Hender, Jill Pye and Terry Haw; Kathy Clifford, Greg Clifford, Helen Jobling and Ron Smith.

WELCOME back to bowls, hopefully everyone is feeling refreshed and ready to get back into the game.

During the break, Aaron Adams won our Club Championship singles by defeating Col Jackson in a very close match.

Aaron will join Dannielle Adams who will represent themselves and the Club at the Champion of Champions being held at Swan Hill this weekend. We wish them both well and encourage members to head along and show your support.
