MVPA REPORT

THE finals of the Murray Valley Novice Singles were played at Swan Hill last weekend, with Racecourse winning the double for the second year in a row.

In the ladies’ final, Sheena Coe from Nyah District played Helen Frame of Racecourse. This was a great game, with Frame getting the upper hand late in the match, to win 21 to 16.

In the men’s event, Shane Domaille (Racecourse) battled it out with Russell Field (Swan Hill) in the final. Domaille had an extra year’s experience over Field and scored a good 21 to 6 win. The Regional Final of the novice singles will be played at Murray Downs on Sunday, January 23 at 9.30am.

The State Mixed Pairs will be played on Sunday, January 30 at Moulamein, with entries closing on Monday January 24 – names to Josh Thornton.

SOCIAL bowls was well attended last Thursday, with the winners being Garry McCaig, Ceceila McCaig and Noel Delmenico.

Our weekend and midweek pennant teams are doing very well, with most teams in the top four – well done and keep up the good bowling.

Murray Downs are hosting an Any Combination 2 Bowl Triples Tournament at 10am on Sunday, January 30. Name are to be in to Dawne Holland or Carl Fox by the January 28.

RACECOURSE

JACKPOT bowls has started again on Wednesday mornings. There were good numbers on January 12 – Graeme Bennett, Carol Smith and Peter Hooper victorious with two wins and +24 shots. Runners-up with one win and +7 shots were Bruce Horsburgh, Kevin Vivian and Brian Warren.

Racecourse club events need to be played – don’t leave them to the last minute, please organise to get them played.

The Final of the Club Triples was played last Friday, with Norm Smith, Shane Domaille and Roy Jones having a good win over Jim Wilcox, Ian Lockhart and Helen Frame.

The club has organised a PYAP Cruise for tonight (Friday, January 21). Our annual Australia Day tournament, which is sponsored by Peter and Mary Hooper, is on Wednesday, January 26. Names are to be in to Kevin Vivian on 0427 353 243.

Finally, congratulations to Helen Frame and Shane Domaille on winning the Murray Valley State Novice Singles titles. Helen won 21 to 16 and Shane won 21 to 6 – a great effort by both players. SWAN HILL

SWAN Hill got off to a good start after the holiday break last Saturday, winning all three divisions in the pennant.

All the best to Vic Plumridge and Geoff Coulter, Judy Husson and Norma Scott, who will all be playing in the Over 60 Regional Pairs this Sunday at Murray Downs.

Our popular Friday Frolic is on Friday with names in by 2.30pm for a 3pm start – and after our fun bowls, you can enjoy social drinks, snacks and try your luck at the raffles.

LAKE BOGA

SOCIAL bowls winners on Wednesday were Ray Leach, ‘Bones’ Smith and Mary Lynas – while the runners-up were Nola Bruton, Rod Dewhurst, Ron Atkinson and Ian Ross.

On duty for social bowls next week, Wednesday, January 26 is John Pye. Following on from bowls, bring your picnic lunch to join in the Lake Boga Australia Day celebration by the lake, with a guest speaker at 1pm.

On Thursday night we have our social barefoot bowls – please let Nola know if you are not available. Everyone is welcome to join, come along by 7pm for a game, with matches starting at 7.30pm.

Please note our 2 Bowl Triples Tournament is on January 23, with a barbecue at 5pm and play starting at 6pm. All are welcome, with team or single entries to Ken on 0408 591 256.

TOOLEYBUC

DIVISION 2 hosted Swan Hill 2 last Saturday afternoon and despite everyone’s best efforts, unfortunately Tooleybuc won only one rink to two, with Swan Hill winning by 12 shots overall. In the Midweek Pennant, Tooleybuc tried hard this week to have a win, when we hosted Murray Downs 3, however, after a hard-fought battle, Tooleybuc won just one rink and went down by eight shots overall.

Next week the Midweek team will play at Nyah District, while both our Division 2 and Division 4 teams will be playing at home this Saturday for the first time this season. Let’s get together and support all our club players on the day and hope for two wins across the board. Division 2 will host Manangatang 1 and Division 4 will host Racecourse 5.
