MURRAY VALLEY PLAYING AREA

THE two Racecourse representatives in the Novice State Singles acquitted themselves really well, both Helen Frame and Shane Domaille reached the Semi Final of their event, putting them in the top four Novice bowlers in Victoria.

MURRAY DOWNS

SOCIAL bowls last week was won by Noelene Weir, Lindsay Toomer and Joe Sapuppo.

The Murray Valley Playing Area Men’s State Fours final was played at Murray Downs last Sunday, two Murray Downs teams played and congratulations to Garry McCaig, John Caldwell, Buck Lehmann and Josh Thornton on taking out the final.

Well done also to the runners-up, Mick Tempini, Darryl Barry, David Alderuccio and Kevin Rowe.

Tomorrow we have a team in each division playing in the grand final, tremendous effort by our members and also to Team 3 who missed out narrowly last weekend.

There are two upcoming tournaments, Saturday, March 19 is President’s Day, any combination 2 Bowl Triples and Thursday, March 24 is Medley Day Mixed Fours.

THIRTY teams from our local area and away enjoyed two days of competitive and friendly bowling and declaring they plan to return next year.

Swan Hill Bowls thank all their members who helped to make this event so successful and also a big thank-you to our sponsors.

Classic on the Murray results were as follows: best winner each game Team 1 Leigh Richardson, Team 2 Roy Crawley, Team 3 Brian Mansbridge, Team 4 Robbie Clough, Team 5 Ron Eckhardt, Team 6 Norm Smith and Team 7 Steve Foster.

The winners were 1st Brian Lehmann’s team, 2nd Vic Plumridge, 3rd Leigh Hardingham and 4th Brennan.

Jim Thompson, Esther Grey and Peter, a visitor from Cockatoo were delighted to win the $100 jackpot last Friday and there is still over $100 to be won today in our Friday Frolic starting at 3pm.

Tomorrow, all Saturday Pennant grand finals are being held at Swan Hill Bowls Club so come along and support the players and soak up the atmosphere.

Swan Hill Bowls Division 1 play tomorrow and on Tuesday, March 8 our Midweek Division 1 team play at Racecourse, well done Swan Hill bowlers and good bowling for Saturday and Tuesday.

After the game tomorrow, all are welcome to come along and enjoy drinks and Pizza Hood pizzas.

RACECOURSE

THE winners of the weekly night bowls competition was Pud’s Possums, starring Steve Hovenden, Bob Hovenden, Tyson Donaczy and Snow Lindsay.

Wednesday night bowls will continue under a new format for the final three weeks of season 2022, Jack Attack follows the premier league bowls style with three players in a team, and possible power play in each match.

Two games of five ends, 7pm start for all contestants.

Well done to Helen Frame and Shane Domaille, they both reached the semi finals of the Novice State Singles last Sunday.

Unfortunately both lost, but it’s a great effort to be in the last four players in the state.

Well done to our Midweek Pennant sides, both won the right to contest the final next Tuesday.

Division 1 will play Swan Hill, and Division 2 tackles Balranald, Midweek Grand Finals will be played at Racecourse Bowls Club.

There will be a social function, with band, and tea (by Sharon) at the club after bowls on Saturday, win or lose, all welcome.

LAKE BOGA

ON Saturday, February 26 semi-finals were played, Lake Boga Division 3 were defeated by Murray Downs 4.

Midweek semi-finals were played at Lake Boga on Tuesday, Division 1 were defeated by Racecourse.

Next Tuesday, Racecourse will have two teams in the grand final against Swan Hill in Division 1 and Balranald in Division 2, they will be played at Racecourse.

Bare foot bowls were played last Thursday, February 24, winners were Woorinen Wanderers and runners-up were Awesome Foursome.

We will hold our fundraising nights for Red Cross and Fire Brigade, everyone please come along, have a game of bowls and have a lot of fun.

Winners for social bowls on Wednesday, March 2 were Ted Hyland, Basil McDonald and Shirley Swan and runners-up Amber Moynihan, Ron Atkinson and Terry Haw.

It’s great to see so many players come to play, we welcome our Texan Bowling friend John Elliott back to see us and have a game of bowls.

As finals come to an end this week we hope to see everyone back to Jackpot Bowls, Nola Bruton is on duty for Wednesday, March 9.
