Swan Hill Bowls Carnival a huge success

THE Swan Hill Bowls Club’s Annual Autumn Carnival has been a huge success with Carnival Secretary Bill King pleased with the numbers the event drew.

Commencing on May 7, the event wrapped up on Tuesday after 11 days of good competition on the greens from bowlers near and far.

Visitors from all parts of Victoria ventured into the city, with some people making the trip for a couple of decades to the carnival.

“I was happy with the carnival,” King said.

“The visitors were really happy with the way they get looked after, both on and off the greens.

“If you don’t look after them they won’t come back.”

King was pleased with numbers that the event drew in, with the first few days of the carnival played in fantastic conditions.

“Overall the numbers met expectations,” King said.

“The numbers for the whole carnival were really good.

“They were up a bit on last year, and there are a lot of people coming back next year.

“They will also probably bring a lot more with them.”

Despite some challenging conditions, they only needed to cancel one event due to inclement weather across the duration of the carnival.

“It was only Thursday morning that we missed because of rain,” King said.

“There were a couple of days that there was a bit of drizzle but they put their coats on and they just pressed on.

“They were quite happy to keep playing on.”

As the carnival entered the second week there was a slight drop in numbers but overall King thought the whole carnival was a success.

“Saturday to Tuesday was very good although numbers were a little down,” he said.

The event is one of the biggest events that the Swan Hill Bowls Club runs for the year, with a number of volunteers needed to make the event a success.

King wanted to thank everyone involved in the lead up and the running of the carnival including those working on the greens, behind the bar and in the kitchen.
