District bowls notes

RACECOURSE

THE bowls section of the club held its annual meeting recently, with Bruce Horsburgh being elected president and Lorraine Loats secretary. The committee will consist of Dawn Doran, Rob Hayes and Jim Wilcox. The selectors for this year are Neville Smith, Shane Domaille, Mick Holyoak, Jim Wilcox, Graeme Bennett and Norm Smith. The match committee is Kevin Vivian, Graeme Bennett, Nev Smith and Glenn McIntosh. Good luck to everyone on their election.

On June 22 Arthur Threadgold, Kevin Vivian and Ned McKay had a day out, winning two games and scoring +20 shots to win the day. Runners-up, with one win and +7 shots, were Don Poulton and Noel Delmenico (Murray Downs).

On June 29 Glen McIntosh and Bob Mason topped the list with two wins and +22 shots, winning from Norm Smith, Maree Sawyer (Leopold) and Noel Delmenico (Murray Downs), who managed one win and +12 shots.

On June 26 Shane Domaille and Mary Hooper were successful with two-and-a-half wins and +6 shots, while the runners-up, with two-and-a-half wins and +5 shots, were Ian Lockhart and D.J. Weaver.

Social bowls will be on again on Sunday and the club is preparing for the opening tournament of the new bowls season, which will be held on Sunday, July 10, at 12.30pm.

SWAN HILL

SOME bowlers have continued to brave the weather, playing Wednesday Social Bowls and Friday Frolics. Winners for June 22 were Peter Dobson, Kessada Smith and Russell Fields, while on June 29 Vic Plumridge and Rod Wardle were victorious. For those interested, names are to be in by 12.30pm for a 1pm start each week.

Friday Frolics is still the most popular event, which starts at 3pm, with names to be in by 2.30pm. The jackpot is always up for grabs and last Friday Graeme Clarke, Alex and Kessada Smith were the lucky winners. All, , including new bowlers or anyone wishing to give bowls a try, are welcome to join either of these games. Friday evening after bowls is a social gathering – come in and enjoy a hot or cold drink, hot nibbles or try your luck in the raffles.

Congratulations to Graeme Clark on his 90th birthday. Graeme held a pizza night at the club recently, to celebrate his special milestone with family and friends.

Alan Marshman and Graeme teamed up with Max Renney to attend the Racecourse Bowls Club Tasco Triples on Sunday, June 19th, with the trio scoring the highest number of points to win the event.

Also, a reminder that memberships for the 2022-23 season can now be paid at the bar.

LAKE BOGA

IN results from June 25, Lyndal Taylor, Joe Sapuppa and Les Barnes came out as winners, with runners-up being Alarna Taylor, Helen Frame and Danny Kelly. The jackpot was won by Keith Anderson, Alex Jobling and Ken Duchie. A new jackpot starts on Saturday, with everyone welcome to a game of bowls.

Sixteen players turned out on June 29 in very cold conditions to have a game of social bowls, with the winners being Helen Jobling, Basil McDonald and Terry Haw. Hopefully, as the new week starts, the weather will be a little kinder to us all.
