RACECOURSE

THE Racecourse Bowls Club held its opening tournament on July 10, with the Taverna Funerals Any Combination Triples taking place. Players from Kerang, Manangatang, Moulamein, Nyah, Murray Downs, Swan Hill, Lake Boga and Kangaroo Island took part.

The winners for the day were Rob Hayes, Lorraine Loats and Brian Warren, with three wins and 81 points each. Runners-up, with three wins and 79 points, were Swan Hill Bowls Club visitors Alex Smith, Kessada Smith and Ralph Dorigo.

Jackpot bowls on July 13 was won by Ross Smith (Kangaroo Island), Max Renney and Helen Frame, with two wins and +20 shots. Runners-up, on one win and +4 shots, were Bryan Bice, Kaye Roberts and Bruce Mitchell. The jackpot went off with a score of -17, with Don Poulton and Noel Delmenico picking up the cash.

On July 17 the club held its Renney Family Triples event, with visitors from Lake Boga, Gunbower, Berriwillock, Manangatang, Swan Hill and Murray Downs playing in the very trying conditions. The winners, with three wins and 76 points, were Bryan Bice, Neil Roberts and Noeleen Weir (Murray Downs), while runners-up were Bill L’Huillier (Gunbower), Mary Hooper, and Phil Parry with three wins and 75 points. Third place went to Ian Lockhart, John Beard and Bob Mason.

Our next event, the Autobarn Triples, is on Sunday, August 7, and will be followed on August 21 by the Ash Roberts Homes Triples.

SWAN HILL

WEDNESDAY Social Bowls has been rather quiet this month, with the icy winds keeping people away. We welcome all to our club for social events, including members, visitors and anyone wishing to try out bowls. Wednesday social bowls starts at 1pm, with names to be in by 12.30pm. If there’s not enough to play competition, you can still enjoy a few ends of practice. The recent winners have been Vic Plumridge, Kess Smith and Russell Fields.

Friday Frolics is one hour of bowls that is still enjoyed by quite a few, with visitors from time to time taking part. Fridays begin at 3pm, with names needing to be in by 2.30pm. Hang around afterwards to enjoy some social activities in the clubrooms afterwards.

Congratulations to Bill King, a dedicated club member for over 40 years on his recent 90th birthday. Bill celebrated this special milestone with family and friends at the Swan Hill Bowls Club.

Swan Hill Bowls Club will hold its Opening Day tournament on Sunday, August 28, with a 12.30pm start, with an any- combination triples format to be played.

Members are reminded that they can renew their memberships for the 2022-23 season by paying at the bar.

LAKE BOGA

THERE was a good turn-up of bowlers on Saturday, with the lucky draws for the day won by Shirley Swan, Lyndal Taylor and Max Parsons. The winners for the day were Bob Macintosh, ‘Bones’ Smith and Terry Haw, while the runner-up position ended in a draw between a team from Marong and Connie Rovere, Ted Hyland and Leo Swan.

On Wednesday, winners were Robyn Jolly, Geoff Coulter, Leigh Kingsbury and Shirley Swan, with the runners-up being Jeannie Leach, Grant Davies and Greg Clifford. Jackpot day will be on Saturday, with names to be in by 12.30pm to start play at 1pm. All are welcome.
